While rewards are typically the domain of people with excellent credit, a number of student credit cards with rewards are currently being offered. The reason college students are given this special treatment is that they have clean credit records, and credit card companies are looking to establish long-term relationships with customers. Student rewards credit cards are available for both students with no credit history and students with fair credit (i.e. someone who has had a credit card for at least a couple years). As is the case with any rewards credit card, student rewards cards usually can be found offering miles, points or cash back. If possible, apply for a cash back student credit card since it provides the most tangible benefit and doesn’t carry the risk of points or miles becoming less valuable over time. Last but not least, remember that interest charges can negate much of the benefit provided by rewards; it is therefore extremely important that you pay your bill in full every month in order to find a student rewards credit card truly rewarding.
