First there was the Cake Boss, now there’s the Air Boss…AirBoss Credit Card that is. Actually I’m not quite sure of the order, but that’s beside the point; with a name like the AirBoss Credit Card this offer better have some attractive air travel rewards. Unfortunately, it does not. The AirBoss Credit Card (requires good or excellent credit) only offers an unspecified number of points that you can redeem for 1% cash back or an unspecified amount of travel, gift cards, and merchandise. That’s paltry and secretive, two things consumers should not react to too kindly. It also makes you wonder about two things, what’s a better air travel rewards card and what’s the meaning of Air Boss (because it can’t possibly speak to the value of its rewards). AirBoss is apparently a discount fuel program targeted to businesses that operate on and out of airports. I guess the AirBoss Visa Credit Card is then just an affinity card that gets you a bit of an extra discount. And you get it for the same $39 fee the standard AirBoss card (not credit card) charges. So I guess if you were already planning on getting an AirBoss membership, the credit card would be the way to go. For most of us though, we’re not looking aviation fuel discounts, so a card like the Capital One Venture Card (2% cash back as long as miles are redeemed for travel), the Chase Sapphire Preferred ($625 initial bonus, good ongoing rewards, and the ability to redeem points with a number of major airlines and hotels), or a card tied to a specific airline (if you only fly with that airline and do so regularly) would be a better choice.
