A lot of people don’t include charge cards in their rewards credit card search, which is odd because charge cards are technically credit cards. Obviously, charge cards are generally for people with excellent credit and they require that you pay your balance in full every month, so they aren’t right for everybody, but they often have better rewards than traditional credit cards. From name alone, you’d therefore have to be encouraged by the American Express Green Card. I mean, it could be good for the environment or give you citizenship or something, but that’s doubtful since a card offering those things would definitely have a higher annual fee than $0 in the first year and $95 thereafter. Unfortunately, you’re bound to be disappointed by the Amex Green Card. It only gives you one point per dollar spent, 2 points for every dollar in travel purchases via American Express travel, and 10 points when you shop at www.membershiprewards.com/earn. The latter two things don’t really count either because credit card company run online shopping malls typically charge higher prices than you can find elsewhere, so these rewards offered by the American Express Green Charge Card aren’t really rewards at all. So what cards will give you more green than the Amex Green Card? When it comes to charge cards, the Amex Gold and Platinum Cards offer much better rewards, but also come with steeper annual fees, so you would have to determine how much practical benefit you’d get from these rewards and how much it’d be worth to you. When it comes to credit cards, it really depends on your biggest expenses, but cards like the Capital One Cash Credit Card, which offers 1.5% cash back across all purchases, and the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which offers a $500 initial rewards bonus, 2 points per dollar on travel and dining, and 1 point on everything else, would both be better options than the American Express Green Card.
