Editorial and user-generated content is not provided, reviewed or endorsed by the issuer of this offer. Please keep in mind that it is not a financial institution’s responsibility to ensure all posts and questions are answered. In addition, WalletHub independently collected information for some of the cards on this page.
There is no way to determine the starting credit limit for the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express as this card has no pre-set spending limit (NPSL). That doesn't mean the Premier Rewards Gold Card offers unlimited spending. Rather, Amex may adjust your spending limit over time, based largely on your payment history. But they won't tell you when it changes. So, you won't know exactly what your limit is most of the time.
NPSL is a common feature among cards such as the Premier Rewards Gold Card. You also have to pay the card's balance in full every month to continue making purchases. But if you do so, and otherwise manage your finances responsibly, you may enjoy regular credit limit increases.
Here's what affects the Premier Rewards Gold Card's credit limit:
Payment history. Pay in full every month and you may get additional purchasing power. Late payments will have the opposite effect.
Spending habits. Amex will look at your spending during previous months when determining what to give you for the current month. Try to not to spend beyond your means or drastically increase the amount you spend from month to month.
Income. Your income normally won't change from month to month, but getting a raise or losing your job could affect your limit.
Your credit score & report. Amex will regularly review your credit history. So, red flags such as missed payments on other credit cards or loans will likely lead to a lower limit.
Note that Amex may not check your actual credit score every month, but you should. It's a good general indicator of your financial performance. The same factors that lead to a higher credit score will likely lead to a higher limit. And the reverse is true, too.
You can never be sure what your Premier Rewards Gold Card credit limit will be, but you can at least predict whether it will go up or down based on the factors mentioned above. It is also worth noting that this card is no longer available to new applicants, but this fact doesn't impact existing cardholders.
Alternative Credit Cards to No Preset Spending Limit
You get your first Premier Rewards Gold Card $100 airline credit each calendar year when you select a qualifying airline and then use your Premier Rewards Gold Card to pay for incidental fees. You can choose the airline you'd like to use from a list that includes all the major U.S. carriers. And you'll receive your first Premier Rewards Gold Card airline credit within 2-4 weeks after using your card to pay an eligible fee. That includes fees for baggage, pets, lounges, flight changes...
The best Amex Premier Rewards Gold Card benefits are rental car insurance and a $100 airline fee credit. In addition, this card also offers a $75 hotel credit and 1 - 3 points per $1 spent on purchases.
Here are the Amex Premier Rewards Gold Card benefits:
Extra points on travel. With this card you can earn 3 points / $1 on flights booked directly with airlines; 2 points / $1 at U.S. restaurants, gas stations and supermarkets; and 1 point / $1 on everything else.
No, there isn't a Premier Rewards Gold Card 50k offer anymore, as it was a limited-time promotion that isn't currently available. In fact, the Premier Rewards Gold Card is no longer available for new applicants. However, there are many other rewards cards with good initial bonuses to choose from.
Initial bonus:$250 statement credit for spending $3,000 in the first 6 months
Ongoing rewards:6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 spent per year), 6% back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, 3% back at U.S. gas stations and on transit, and 1% back on all other purchases, received as rewards dollars (which can be redeemed as a statement credit or at Amazon.com checkout)
You can activate your Premier Rewards Gold Card by visiting the online activation page. Once you're there, provide the required information and follow the instructions on screen. But that's not the only way you can activate your card.

The company in my opinion, is not what it used to be. They can limit or cancel your account without prior notification. They can do so - even if you’ve never missed a payment. Information regarding such actions, can be a challenge to obtain. If at all. This was the case with me. My “pay as you go” benefit (for which you pay a membership fee annually) was suspended and reinstated and suspended again. No reason ever given despite repeated requests. This is but one example. I have never missed a payment and always in full. 30+ years. And this is how they “appreciate my loyalty”…. Indeed

I've had the PRG since 2012 and have an annual spend of $50-100k depending on the year but decided to cancel my card today due to horrendous customer service.
When I first got the card, the customer service was excellent and I was always greeted by someone friendly and willing to help but in the last few years the service has really gone downhill to the point where I didn't even want to call. Besides the horrible wait times and rude representatives, every-time I call I'm greeted by someone from India who barely speaks english and is ill equipped in providing the minimum level of customer service necessitated for a charge card. To give one example, a few weeks ago Amex totally dropped the ball and had some IT issues and wiped my 3X Amazon point offer from my account after it had expired. Worse, they removed the useful offer tab that said "expired" so the only proof I had was a screenshot of the offer as this has happened to me before. Now, a loyal member with a significant point balance that calls about something like this should be greeted with an immediate apology and a reinstatement of the points but instead I was told I had to wait 3-5 business days for the "back-office" to sort the issue. I guess even when you exploit underpaid and destitute workers in Mumbai to enhance your bottom line it stills takes significant time for a simple issue but I'm a reasonable guy so I wait.. and wait... and wait. Nearly 10 business days later I call back and they say sorry we're still working on it, you need to wait at least another 15 BUSINESS DAYS. When I escalated the situation they totally lied and mentioned the hurricane even though the original time period they had given me lapsed well before the hurricanes onset.... When I asked to cancel the card the representative offered me 20,000 points but I would rather keep my dignity than dance with the devil that is American Express.
In summation, if you like speaking to exploited Indian CSR's who can't help you, being lied to, and being cheated after being a customer for six years, do business with Amex.

I got this card through my father's card as a secondary account cardholder. The card itself has been amazing to use. There are various perks to using it such as percentage cash back, various amounts of credit to online or in store purchases, airline and hotel perks and more. The thing I liked the most about the Amex card is when someone somehow used my card information on two online purchases, and I contacted them about it, they investigated immediately. The first charge of around $30 was reversed within the day. The second charge of over $400 was reversed after an investigation but it took a while longer. They did not contact me after the resolution about who did it, but they did contact me about how the charges were reversed. I think that I would have liked to know how and who stole my card info so I could prevent this in the future. Regardless, I would recommend the card wholeheartedly. The customer service was great and they stand behind their cardholders when something goes wrong.

This has been my go-to card for the vast majority of my purchases. This card makes you feel a certain level of prestige, owning a 'mid' tier American Express charge card. There's an annual fee, but it's not too bad for what you get as a result of membership. This card gives you access to AMEX Membership Rewards, points that can be cashed in for flights, hotels, gift cards, Amazon purchases, among countless other things. You also gain access to additional protection from AMEX, such as an extended return policy, purchase protection, extended warranty, among other perks. Overall, I love the card, I just wish the fee was a little lower than $195. Fantastic perks and rewards, fee could be lower.

This card is pretty good. They gave me points when I first signed up which you can use on their reward site. It roughly transfers as 100 pts / $1. There is an annual fee, but I have made it back in rewards. There are other benefits as well like automatic rental car insurance, which are very useful.

I love my American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card. It provides excellent perks and of course American Express's great customer service. I especially love the American Express extended warranty, it really helped when our washing machine died just out of manufacturer's warranty. In addition to the extended warranty, you get the excellent american express fraud protection. While I have not had to use it myself, I have had friends who received very prompt warnings from american express when their cards were stolen. This can save you a great deal of hassle. You also get American Express points on travel and groceries! I cannot recommend it enough!
