Best Buy Credit Card Review Highlights
You need good credit to get the Visa. There are three different Best Buy credit cards, and the one you get approved for depends on your overall creditworthiness. But people with good credit or better generally get the Platinum Best Buy Visa Card, which has no annual fee, allows you to make non-Best Buy purchases and rewards you with up to 3% back in the process. Applicants who don’t get approved for this standard Best Buy Visa are considered for the Best Buy Store Card and Best Buy Gold Visa, in that order. You can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub to see which offer you’re likely to be approved for.
No annual fee, unless you get Gold. The Platinum and the Best Buy Store Card do not charge annual fees. This helps you earn more rewards value and avoid spending more than you’d prefer. But if you get approved for the Best Buy Visa Gold Card instead, you’ll have to pay $59 per year. That’s obviously not as attractive of a deal.
5% back on Best Buy purchases is the best feature. 5% back on Best Buy purchases is the best feature. If you get approved for either Best Buy Visa Platinum or Best Buy Visa Gold, you’ll earn 2% back on purchases made at restaurants, bars and grocery stores. You’ll also get 3% back on net purchases made at Gas Stations. Plus, 1% back on all other non-Best Buy purchases. But the real star of the show, for all four Best Buy rewards cards, is the 5% back you’ll earn on the pre-tax amount of all Best Buy purchases. But the real star of the show, for all four Best Buy rewards cards, is the 5% back you’ll earn on the pre-tax amount of all Best Buy purchases. If you regularly buy things from Best Buy or you’re planning a large purchase from the retailer, 5% off everything will save you a lot of money. Just remember that you need to reject the deferred-interest financing offer if you want to earn rewards.
Deferred interest makes financing dangerous. If you’re planning a big-ticket Best Buy purchase that you won’t be able to repay completely within a single billing period, you’re better off getting a 0% credit card that’s not affiliated with a retailer. Like many other retailers, Best Buy uses a feature called deferred interest, which allows interest to retroactively apply to your entire original purchase amount if you pay your bill late or don’t repay your full balance by the end of the low-rate introductory period. All four Best Buy cards have it.

Garbage. Very frustrating. I received this card, but it would not allow me to manage it online. It kept saying, "Your card is not registered for online services. Please register your card to manage your account online." But when I tried to register, it would say, "Something you entered wasn't right. Try again. After too many failed attempts, we'll temporarily lock your ability to update your User ID." I got stuck in this circular error for hours, tried different browsers, different computers, and it just would not let me register the card for online access. So I called and cancelled it.

My account was hacked by someone many states away who reported my card stolen. Without verification of identity, Citi Bank allowed a change of address, an email address, and shipped the thieves a new card with my name on it to Maryland. I live in Tennessee; every transaction prior to the stolen card had been made in Tennessee. I have since been shipped a new card to Tennessee, but the charges at Best Buy in Maryland remain on my account balance. A purchase for $300 appeared on my account, which I had to regain access to, and I called Citi and asked them to shut down that card once we established what had happened. I thought all was resolved since they closed that card, but no, another $558.79 was spent at Best Buy later that same day. Now, we are at $858.79, with both transactions made at a Best Buy in Maryland. It has been a month, and still, these charges remain on my account. Customer service was more concerned about increasing my account balance than actually resolving the issue. They even tried to offer me a larger credit limit while the thieves had the other card. I'm paying interest on nearly $900 that someone else spent, and Best Buy is aware that it was not me who made these purchases.

I wish I could give them zero stars. I had their card for two years, and they always charged me interest, even if I used it outside the store. I couldn't understand the reason, and whenever I talked to their customer service, they told me to pay a certain amount and I wouldn't get interest. Even though I did that, I always saw interest on my account. So, if you are Muslim, avoid their credit card.

Had this card for 6 years, $5000 credit limit, auto payments, so always on time and paid full balance, but didn't use it often. Out of nowhere, I get a notification that my credit limit has been decreased to $750, which is $1300 lower than when I first got the card. I will be canceling.

The Best Buy Credit Card is the worst credit card you can ever have; their terms are never clear. I was in a promotion I applied for in the store at Best Buy. The person helping me told me I had a 12-month interest-free period, then it would start adding an interest rate. They NEVER mentioned that I have to pay it off within 12 months if I do not want to be recharged interest for the previous 12 months. I was set up for autopay. I recently logged on to close my balance and found out they charged me over $850 in interest for the previous 12 months with no warning. I called customer service to understand what happened; they were very rude and did not want to help in any way. I was on hold for over 30 minutes and talked to three different people. They just told me, "We do not care; it is your responsibility to read all the rules regarding the promotion. We never state them clearly; you need to find them. It is all your responsibility; we cannot do anything." Worst customer service I ever had to deal with. Worst credit card with no clear information. It was my first and last time using them.

I was charged twice for late fees. I paid my payment and was told there would be no extra charges. Here we go again: The new statement states another late fee. This is definitely a scam. I am not using this credit card anymore.

Posted payment to their account after the date my bank said it was deposited. They charged a fee even though I have proof it was paid on time. India customer service put me on hold, then hung up on me, and I instantly got notified that my credit score went down by more than 100 points! I've never been late with any payments in full on anything. This is a Scam!

Clear-cut discrimination. I have had my card since 2014. Still, I only have a $5,000 limit—they refuse to give me an increase, even though all of my other cards are $10,000 and up. I had not had any problems using my card until I was making purchases to prepare for my trip to Ghana. Every transaction was denied.
I called to see what the problem was. They said they needed to add notes to make the card available for international use. After adding the notes, they assured me it was okay to use. However, the card continued to be denied. My account was suspended, and I had to wait 10 days for a letter to come in the mail, then provide a number printed on the letter to Best Buy. I couldn't wait 10 days to prepare for my trip, so I used an alternative method.
I do business in Ghana, so I am always making transactions with other cards. I decided to get an authorized user card for my business partner in Ghana. Before using the card, I called and explained that the card would be used in Ghana. They added notes to the account and said it was okay to use. However, the card was denied when he tried to use it.
I have been calling Best Buy and attempting to use both the card and my card to complete transactions. Each call, I ask to speak with a supervisor, and they confirm that the card will work. Each time, it was untrue.
After the most recent attempt to use the card, it was again declined. This time when I called, the agent was very rude and said that I now need to wait for another verification letter. When I asked why, he said he could not tell me. This is systematic discrimination against Africans and African countries. I have no problem using the card with Europeans or European countries.

Worst card I've got!!! especially because the customer service representative was not helpful and unprofessional. I was charged interest although I was never late for a payment and was not aware it had expired.
I do understand that it's my fault, but the customer service person really didn't care. I tried to ask for her name, and she hung up on me... after I paid the entire amount and closed my account.

This is the worst card and has the worst customer service. I am unsure why my Best Buy credit card got locked out, and they couldn't open it, asking me to wait 7-10 business days to get a letter for a security check. They can unlock it only after that. So this is a ridiculous process.
