Classic Platinum sounds a little bit like cologne a rapper would wear doesn’t it? It’s actually a credit card though, the Capital One Classic Platinum Credit Card (not to be confused with the Capital One Platinum Card). The Classic Platinum Card has a few key differences as compared to it’s non-classic cousin. First of all, the Cap One Classic Platinum has a $39 annual fee, whereas the non-classic does not have an annual fee in the first year and only a $19 fee thereafter. While the Classic Platinum Credit Card also does not offer rewards, it does give you 0% on purchases for 8 months. The real question therefore is whether the interest you would incur on an upcoming big-ticket purchase would amount to more than $39 without the Classic Platinum Card from Capital One? If it wouldn’t the card obviously wouldn’t be worth getting since there are free credit building options available (such as the non-classic Platinum Card). If it would, then the Classic Platinum Capital One Credit Card would be useful. What if I want rewards though, you might ask. Well, its important to note that rewards should not be your main focus when you have limited credit because the rewards you get aren’t going to be all that lucrative. Instead, you should focus on getting a card with no annual fee and if you can find one that also offers rewards, all the better. The Capital One Cash Rewards for Newcomers card fits this bill, as it doesn’t have an annual fee and offers 2% cash back on travel and 1% cash back on everything else.
