No, this card doesn’t keep your mouth squeaky clean. Well, I’m sure you could pick your teeth with it or something, but it’s not a rewards card tied to Orbit the gum company, rather Orbitz the travel deal site. The Capital One Orbitz Visa Platinum Credit Card offers 3 points per dollar spent on purchases made through Orbitz.com, 1 point for everything else, and a 250 point refueling bonus when you redeem points for awards. It’s also a Visa card, so you should be able to use it anywhere in the world that your travels take you. While the Orbitz Visa does not have an annual fee, you should carefully consider whether it’s actually a good deal, mostly because it requires good or excellent credit for approval. There are so many good credit cards targeted to these consumer demographics, that it would be a waste of potential to settle for an average offer. Unfortunately, that’s really what the Capital One Orbitz credit card is. The main reason people use sites like Orbitz is to find the best deals, and I would hazard to guess that they don’t check just Orbitz for the cheapest flights, hotel, etc. They probably also look at Piceline, Tevelocity and Kayak, so why use a credit card that you can only get the most out of if you always book through Orbitz? The Orbitz credit card also doesn’t offer an initial rewards bonus, which is particularly damning when you consider that frequent travelers can get 2 free flights or 1-3 free hotel nights with the Citi Hilton HHonors Credit Card. Also, considering the fact that generic travel rewards cards like the Capital One Venture Card offer basically 2% cash back on any travel-related purchases, its pretty obvious that the Orbitz.com Credit Card isn’t really competitive, at least for everyone who isn’t a die-hard Orbitz customer.
