The Capital One Platinum Prestige Credit Card doesn’t have rewards. Though you might assume so, this doesn’t automatically mean it’s a bad offer though because credit cards with low fees or rates can also be quite helpful for certain types of consumers. The obvious questions then is does Capital One Platinum Prestige Card have low rates and fees. The answer is yes, but even that doesn’t tell you all you need to know. The Capital One Platinum Prestige Card does not have an annual fee and it offers 0% on purchases AND transfers for about a year; however, it requires excellent or good credit for approval, which means that cards with that collection of terms (or better) are a dime a dozen. While the Platinum Prestige Credit Card from Capital One is a decent offer, it is not the best in its category, so I would not recommend getting it. Which card you should get depends on your needs. If you simply want to build credit at the lowest possible cost, a secured card like the Orchard Bank Secured MasterCard might be your best option since your credit building needs likely indicate that you will not get approved for the Capital One Platinum Prestige Card. If you just want to have a credit card for emergencies or other infrequent use and you already have above-average credit, then go with Capital One Cash Credit Card because in addition to not having an annual fee, this card offers 1.5% cash back on any purchases that you do wind up making. If you want to save money on existing debt or an upcoming big-ticket purchase, the Citi Simplicity Card is a better option than the Platinum Prestige Capital One Credit Card given that it offers 0% on both purchases and balance transfers for 21 months. Finally, if you use your card a lot and want rewards, it might make more sense to get a card WITH an annual fee, since they often have the best rewards. Two cards in particular to look out for are The Capital One Venture Card and the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card since they don’t have annual fees in the first year and offer some of the best rewards on the market, including lucrative initial rewards bonuses. If you check out these cards, it will be clear that the Capital One Platinum Prestige Credit Card just doesn’t stack up.
