Looks like Capital One went platinum. No, it didn’t make an album that sold a million units or a single that sold two, but rather they offer a card called the Capital One Platinum Credit Card. The question therefore is, is this Platinum Credit Card a hit or a flop? In evaluating this, let’s keep in mind that the card is targeted to people with fair or limited credit, which means it won’t have the best rates or rewards and low costs are what you should be looking for in order to build credit cost effectively. So without further ado, the Cap One Platinum Card does not have an annual fee in the first year and only a $19 annual fee thereafter. This is important because credit score gains are usually seen within about a year of responsible use, so the Platinum Card could very well be a free credit building vehicle. Unfortunately, this card does not offer rewards or 0% introductory rates, which means the only people who it would really suit are those who wish to take advantage of the fact that credit cards send information to the credit bureaus whether you use them to make purchases or not. People with limited credit who want to build credit while making purchases or who need to save money on interest, as caused by current or future balances, need some alternatives to the Platinum Credit Card from Capital One. As far as rewards go, the Capital One No Hassle Cash Rewards and Cash Rewards for Newcomers are the best options. Both offer 2% cash back on specific spending categories and 1% cash back on everything else. When it comes to 0% rates, both the No Hassle Cash Rewards Card and the Capital One Classic Platinum Card offer 0% on purchases for 8 months. Any of these cards would be more suitable than the Capital One Platinum Credit Card. In case you’re wondering, Ive mentioned so many Capital One credit cards here because they are one of the most active major issuers in the below-average credit score spaces (most other issuers deal almost exclusively with people who have good or excellent credit scores).
