There are a few different Chase Freedom Visa offers available, so the first thing you need to do before applying for this is make sure you have the right one. This $100 cash back + 0% Intro APR version offers a little bit of everything though so it can be kinda hard figuring out exactly what kind of consumer should get it. This’ll become clearer as we take a look at its terms. From the name, you obviously know that this Chase Freedom Visa credit card gives you a $100 initial bonus (after you spend $500 in the first three months) and 0% (12 months for transfers; 6 for purchases), but it also offers 5% cash back on quarterly spending categories and 1% on everything else. Let’s compare these terms to other available offers. The $100 initial bonus the Chase Freedom Visa offers is good, but not great when you consider that cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred offer either at least $500. Yeah, you will probably have to spend more in the first three months to get it, but if you will spend that much anyway, that’s not a concern. The Chase Freedom Visa’s 0% APR offers are decent as well, but you can get 0% on both transfers and purchases for 21 months with the Citi Simplicity and Platinum Select credit cards. When it comes to rewards, you can do better than 5% on rotating categories and 1% on everything else, particularly since you have to sign up for those rotating categories and not everyone will remember to do so every quarter. On their own, each of the Chase Freedom Visa - $100 cash back + 0% Intro APR card’s features is inferior to available options. So what about the sum of these parts? Getting a single card that addresses all of your needs (e.g. rewards, lowering the cost of debt, etc.) isn’t the best idea, precisely because you are unlikely to get any features that excel in their own right. For most people, I’d recommend segmenting your needs and getting the best possible card to meet each of them. If you want to use a 0% intro purchase APR to leave your payments in the bank longer and in doing so get interest revenue and rewards, I’d go with the Citi Dividend World MasterCard or the Discover More Card because both offer rewards at least comparable to the Chase Freedom Visa and have 0% for longer.
