If you’re looking to give back, the Children’s Wish Foundation is certainly a worthy cause. But whether the Children’s Wish Foundation Cash Rewards Credit Card is a worthy credit card is another story altogether. Any credit card can be a charity credit card both in the sense that you can simply donate your rewards personally or sign up for one of the charity giving programs that most credit card companies now offer. That means the Children’s Wish Foundation Cash Rewards Card is not the only option people looking to give to this particular cause have at their disposal and it must therefore be held to a higher standard. This card offers a $10 statement credit after your first purchase and “1% cash back each year on everyday purchases like groceries, gasoline and movie tickets.” You also get 0% on both purchases and balance transfers for 6 months, which I guess you could use to keep more of your money in the bank for longer and donate the interest revenue to charity. Still, the Children’s Wish Foundation Cash Rewards Credit Card is obviously not that good. It doesn’t even appear that these rewards are automatically donated to the Children’s Wish Foundation; perhaps U.S. Bank, the cards issuer, simply gives a portion of the profits derived from the card to the charity. Either way, there are better ways to give back. For example, you could open a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and donate the $500 initial bonus you get. You could also get a card like the Capital One Chase Credit Card, which gives you 1.5% cash back across all purchases, and donate on an ongoing basis. Capital One also lets you customize the entire front side of your card so you could put a Children’s Wish Foundation picture on the front and get the same branding as the Children’s Wish Foundation Credit Card. The point is that there are a number of cards that will allow you to give more back to the foundation than the actual Children’s Wish Foundation Cash Rewards Credit Card, so take a pass on it.
