Are you a forward thinker? By that I, of course, mean are you thinking about opening the Citi Forward Card? If so, you should be well aware of exactly what it offers, how practically attractive these offerings are, and how they stack up to the rest of the above-average credit card market. I fancy myself as somewhat of an amateur credit card expert, so here’s my two cents on this card; I hope it helps. In terms of rewards, the Citi Forward Credit Card offers 10,000 bonus points for spending $650 and signing up for paperless statements within the first three months. This initial rewards bonus is redeemable for $100 in gift cards. You also get 5 points per dollar spent at restaurants and on entertainment (i.e. books, movies, and music) as well as 1 point per dollar spent on everything else. In terms of interest rates, the Forward Card offers 0% on purchases for seven months and 0% on balance transfers for 12 months (3% balance transfer fee). After these intro rates expire, a 12.99% - 22.99% variable interest rate kicks in. Which end of the spectrum you regular interest rate ends up being on is determined by your credit standing. Ultimately, this card does a little bit of everything pretty well, but nothing is exceptional. If you are interested in a card with a good initial bonus, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is a better option. If you need an everyday rewards card, I’d argue that the Capital One Venture Card is better than the Citi Forward Card because it is basically a 2% cash back card if you redeem for any travel related purchase and it also has a $100 initial rewards bonus. Alternatively, if you don’t travel much, a card like the Capital One Cash Rewards Credit Card offers 1.5% across all purchases and would probably prove more lucrative than the Citi Forward Card because most people’s spending exceeds the bounds of restaurant and entertainment purchases. Finally, if you are interested in a low introductory interest rate, then the Citi Simplicity Card is the way to go, since it offers 0% on purchases and transfers for 21 months. So, you probably should not move forward with the Citi Forward Credit Card.
