While the Citi Platinum Select Credit Card does not offer rewards, it more than makes up for that with its introductory interest rates. The Platinum Card is one of three Citicards that offers 0% on purchases as well as balance transfers for 21 months (along with the Citi Simplicity and Diamond Preferred Cards). Since 21 months is the longest 0% term available, the obvious question is does the Citi Platinum Select MasterCard differentiate itself at all from its cousins, so to speak, or does it make no difference which offer you choose? Well, the Platinum Select Citicard is exactly the same as the Diamond Preferred Card, both have 11.99% - 21.99% (V) APRs and no annual fee. The Simplicity Card only differs in that it has a 12.99% - 21.99% (V) APR. Ok, but who are these cards right for? Both the Citi Platinum Card or the Diamond Preferred would be extremely helpful for people who need to lower the cost of debt, either an existing balance or an upcoming big-ticket purchase. There is another interesting application for these cards as well, however. If your bank account, gives you a lucrative interest rate, you could simply make minimum payments over the first 21 months with your card, leaving the rest of your would be payments to grow in the bank for longer. Whether this makes sense obviously depends on your interest rate and the rewards you could get from other cards. Keep in mind that a card like the Discover More Card offers 0% for 15 months and gives you rewards, which means that you could earn both interest and rewards revenue if you use it for the approach laid out above.
