I can’t decide whether the CorTrust Bank CorPlatinum Credit Card sounds like something out of Terminator or one of those jewelry commercials starring Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. Either way, if you are considering opening the CorTrust CorPlatinum Card you need to see whether it’s a good deal or not. Well, it appears that the CorPlatinum Card gives you 1 point per $1 spent and has a 2.99% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months. Considering that this CorTrust Banks Credit Card requires excellent credit for approval, these terms are pretty bad. It’s a good thing that you learned that now instead of after applying for the Core Platinum Credit Card though because you have time to explore alternatives. The cards that are recommendable depend on your needs. If you want an attractive initial bonus, I’d go with the Chase Sapphire Card; it gives you $500 -625 for spending $3k in the first 3 months (that’s $500 more than the CorTrust Banks Core Platinum Credit Card gives you). If you want ongoing rewards, I’d recommend the Capital One Venture Card (basically travel oriented 2% cash back card), the Capital One Cash Card (1.5% across all purchases) or the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express (3% at supermarkets, 2% at gas stations and department stores, 1% on everything else). Obviously, all three cards offer better rewards than the CorTrust Platinum Card. If you want a low introductory interest rate, go with the Citi Simplicity, Diamond Preferred or Platinum Select Card, as all three offer 0% on purchases and transfers for 18 months. Again, this easily bests the CorPlatinum Credit Card’s 2.99% for 6 months.
