What is the amount that a person is usually approved for on a credit card with bad credit to start

Photo of Card H.
Nov 5, 2013
It depends on the type of card you wish to get, the company that issues it, and your overall credit standing. Most secured credit cards require a refundable security deposit of at least $200 that will serve as your credit line. So for example, if you place a $300 deposit, your credit limit will also be $300. With an unsecured credit card for bad credit, like the Credit One Bank Credit Card, the credit line that you will ultimately get approved for is hard to predict. Credit One will make that determination based on your income, debts, and the exact nature of your credit history.

Can I use card in Spain without a PIN?

Photo of Card H.
Dec 4, 2015
Yes and No. You should be able to use your card basically everywhere that takes plastic, with the exception of automated payment machines, such as the kiosks in train stations and self-serve gas pumps, which only accept chip-and-pin cards. The fact that this card uses chip and signature security is not the main reason why you should question bringing it abroad, however. It charges a 3% foreign transaction fee on any purchase that is processed outside of the United States, which could significantly inflate the cost of your trip.

You should still make sure to have a credit card when traveling, though, both for security and because credit cards charge far more

What Credit score do I need to be APPROVED for this card???

Photo of Card H.

You can get this card if your credit score is in the 300 - 619 range, but it will depend on the particulars of your credit history and your disposable income. If you want to guarantee getting a new card, check out secured credit cards.

The Credit One Platinum Visa Card is one of the best options for a very particular type of person: someone with bad credit who needs what amounts to an emergency loan. If, for example, you need credit to cover the cost of vehicle repairs or unexpected medical expenses, rather than for the primary purpose of credit building, then paying $35 to $75 in first-year fees for an initial credit line of $300 to $500 might very well be the best deal you’re going to find. The ability to earn 1% cash back on gas and groceries sure doesn’t hurt, either.

Just keep in mind that this card charges interest at a more

literally these people are in the stone age yet, the customer service is horrible, they do not qualify for the adjective scammers because how come far exceeds the qualifier, a total disaster. I would not recommend to my worst enemy

I have been reading many reviews regarding COB Visa Credit Card. Being a member for a little over one month, I've received an increase with
no fees attached. This card is truly a blessing for me as it will help build my credit ratings. Reading all details as to how this card works, limiting my spending power, and paying the full total due, is simple for me. Thank you COB for giving me a fresh start.

This card helped get me started again. Like many of us these days I stumbled and hit hard times and had to declare bankruptcy. These folks accepted me and after a few months of paying on time they immediately doubled my credit line from $300 to $600. I had to interact with support for 2 issues and each time they were responsive and courteous. My only negative is I had to pay a rather large membership fee but in all fairness that has to be expected given the risk they took by granting me a line of credit. I also earn some cash back for my purchases which is a more

I applied for this card I have fairly bad credit and I wanted to re-establish my credit rating. I was easily approved without having to provide any extra documentation. The APR is very high and there is an annual fee that is deducted immediately when the card is activated. There is also no option for automatic payments. But for those with bad credit, this could be a good card to get back on track to good credit.

My husband and I have had this card for about 4 months now. Unfortunately, my husband was a victim of the downturn of the economy. He delivers new semi trucks for a living and when the economy turned, truck sales were down and he was laid off for 6 months, which ruined our credit. We actually waited for the kids to leave home before trying to get a card. This offer came in the mail. I read EVERYTHING thoroughly. I ran it past my husband and we decided to go for it. We were approved and got a card with a low limit ($300). After the first month, we got more

Read a lot of negative reviews about this card but my girlfriend denied having any issues with it so I applied. I have had the card for approximately 3 months and has had one complimentary credit line increase. My experience with them have been positive so far.

My husband and I were in debt and had to file bankruptcy last year. I was looking for cards to try to rebuild our credit. We each got a Credit One card to start the process. The interest rate is a bit high, but that is to be expected when your credit score is low. I would recommend this card to others that are trying to rebuild their credit. If you make your payments on time for 5 months in a row, they will up your credit limit which is a nice perk. The customer service has been great and I have no complaints in that area.

I have challenged credit and have been looking for ways to re-establish my credit rating. I got immediate approval for this card without having to verify any information. I received the card in few weeks of applying. The APR is rather high but I think this is a great card for those trying to establish or repair their credit rating. The card even offers cash back on gas and grocery sales.

This credit card provider finds a way to charge you for almost every activity, from an annual fee (broken down into 12 monthly payments), to charging you for an earned credit limit increase. If you choose a designer card, there is a charge. When making a payment there is such a long processing time that unless you make your payment 7-10 days before your due date, it will be a late payment which will incur charges/penalties. Alternately, they offer a quick posting method that your charged for if you haven't allowed enough lead time for your payment to process and post by the due date. If they up your credit more

This is a good card if you have bad credit and want something to help make it better. You will not get a high limit and the fees are really high but that is the price you pay for having bad credit. They do increase your line if you are good about paying. They also do report to the credit reporting agencies. Again the fees and interest rates are high but that is to be expected.

Just don't get this card! Hidden fees, interest on purchases I didn't make, this is more like what you would expect from a loan shark than a credit card company! I had balance transferred to another card and that REALLY pissed them off, hitting me with cancellation fees of $74! I was held hostage and they refused to cancel the card until I paid it! Please stay away from credit one

I paid the minimum on my CreditOne card ON TIME but they still added extra fees for the hell of it and claimed that I'm $17 over my limit!! If they want extra money in order for one not to be over the limit, they should simply say so instead of ripping off the customers with minimum payments! I HATE this card and once I've paid it off, I'm cancelling and going with another bank or even a secured card instead!

I just got off of the phone with one of Credit One Bank's customer service reps. (I would've emailed them but that is not an option on their antiquated site.) I've had my card for nearly two years, have never missed a payment or been late. Not once, not ever. Despite my credit score of 722, I still am charged an annual fee, have a high interest rate, and a very low credit limit. I've been a loyal customer and have other cards with much lower rates, no annual fee and high credit limits. This card offers no perks / rewards to boot. The customer service rep I spoke to more

This isn't the worst of the low credit score cards I've had, but it definitely is not a quality card by any means. If I wasn't trying to rebuild my credit, I wouldn't even bother keeping it open. You can get so many better cards without fees, better interest rates and even cash back.

On the other hand, I do get a tiny bit of cash back on gas and it has helped me to rebuild my credit, so I can't complain too much.

Credit One Visa serves it purpose to help rebuild your credit, but they are stingy with credit limit increases. I had to wait an entire YEAR before I was offered an increase. They only offered to give me $250 and were going to charge me $14.95 if I accepted. I paid on time, making multiple payments a month every month, paid Balance in full a few months and all they want to offer is $250??!! Capital one gave me $1000 increase on BOTH of my cards with them. Overall, it is a pretty good card for people trying to rebuild their credit. I am thankful they gave me a chance more

Credit One Visa card is a card that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Credit One promise to Increase my credit rating after 6 months if paid on or before due date. I made my payments on time still hasn't received an Increase. I received a bill for $50 dollars before I activate my card. My credit limited was $300 dollars with an high interest rate of 23.90 percent. Stay away from this card it will decrease your credit not Increase it. There are too many charges and fees.

I am very happy with this card. My credit is NOT great, and I needed some help. I got approved for this card on a whim, and have made sure to pay it off shortly after I use it each time, and have gotten two credit line increases so far. My limit is less than 1000, but that's ok, I am happy with that. They've been very fair to me!

This is my second year having the credit one bank credit card. I have been reading the negative reviews online and I have to say that my experience has been more positive. My personal history summarized: worked hard to build my credit; met guy, got married, a couple years and a few bad moral & credit decisions later, my credit was ruined. I am now divorced and single. I signed up for this card in 2014.

Facts about this card:
1. For people with bad to below average credit;
2. $75 annual fee upon sign up (introductory fee); is immediately tacked unto account as soon as you activate the card and more

Truly. I can't really post a review because I've only had this card for one month... But I see a lot of complaints here about things they could have read in the terms of use. I've used the card a couple times with no problems and paid it off immediately, for free and with no problems. I just plan to use it until I start getting offers for better cards. Until then I'll pay the yearly fees and CL increase fees because that's the price of building my credit.

Had this card over 1 year, never saw an increase in limit even though I make my monthly payments on time. Waste of time with this company. Applied twice for increases over the last year, declined each time. Went online to capital one logged into my account clicked on increase limit, and 30 seconds later came back approved and my limit was changed immediately. Good by Credit One!

credit one platinum card- no deposit required
It was easy to get with poor credit - CL of 400
very hard to get a credit line increase. they do not show your credit score as advertised.....all of their "perks" you have to pay for
took 3 months to show up on my credit reports
$75 annual fee gets charged to the card soon after you receive it
hard to pay, there is no app and you have to jump through hoops to pay it. it takes 4-5 days for your payment to process. if you want it to process sooner (1-2 days) there is a $10 fee.
the customer service is terrible, one guy was actually more

THE CREDIT ONE CARD IS COUNTER PRODUCTIVE. The policies of this card are complicated and costly. Contrary to its claims to help build or repair credit, it won't. Its quite the opposite. A $75.00 fee is deducted from the credit limit before you even use the card and its due before the 30 day period has passed, a $25.00 late, and serveral processing fees, and many hidden fees. By the time you add up all the fees a majority of the credit limit is owed back to Credit One leaving you with hardly any credit to spend for the things you got the card for in the first place. That's the point of cards for people with poor credit. The sub-prime lenders like those offering the Credit One card are unsecured but guarantee the user pays up front (deposit esque) and test the waters with you on the "balance." If you pay the balance off each pay period you not only save daily compounding interest fees you are also apt to receive the mythical limit increase reviewers claim don't exist. Paying the balance and paying the minimum say two different things. 1. If u pay the balance (or most of it) each month it says youre bot over extending and use credit wisely. Youll likely receive a high offer. more

Hi I've had this card about three weeks and I was approved for the 300 credit line I'm elated because who would ever trust me with money right?
yes I destroyed my credit in my younger years and I'm still struggling to become more responsible with my money management. So far so good everyone I like the fact that they have numerous ways for you to pay them western union, moneygram ,bank account and fast pay with debit there's no way anyone can default with this card impossible. If one method to pay doesn't work you have another excellent. I haven't received a credit line increase as of yet more

Do know that the annual fee, about $75 is charged to your account immediately once you accept the card, so don't run out and max your card Also, no one there at customer service is American so good luck understanding them. I had to keep asking the person to slow down and speak slowly and had them repeat what they were saying over and over again. It's embarrassing to have to keep telling a person you don't understand them and it's frustrating to not be able to get a full and complete answer because of the language barrier. This is my opinion so far, maybe things will improve.

From all that I've read not just here but other review sites, those who have a less favorable opinion of the Credit One Visa are those who seem to be headed right back to that situation that ironically got them here in the first place! Use this card with the expressed purpose of building OR rebuilding credit , meaning: only purchase what you can pay IN FULL AT STATEMENT TIME! Anyone sweating the interest charged tells me you're carrying a balance which means you're really not that interested in truly changing your financial future. Paying on time is great and sometimes an emergency will require splitting up payments but short more

I like that I was approved for this card because I have very low credit and my credit has improved from owning this card. I do not like their customer service. It is very hard to get ahold of somebody that I can communicate with. At one point I moved and called to have my address switched and about 3 months later I lost my card and when I ordered another one they sent it to the wrong address.

I was looking for a credit card that didn't have absolutely ridiculous fees or rates. My credit - like many others - was damaged by the recession and subsequent housing market. Regardless of that however, I was able to get a card with the Credit One Bank and even though it has an annual fee it does not have all the additional little fees that many other "poor credit" credit cards have. These other cards heap on activation fees, but this card does not.

Make no mistake it is not a great card, but it is useful for rebuilding your credit. The fees aren't too bad, and the annual fee is more

I was searching for a card that had a bigger CL considering my bad score of 566. I applied and got approved in 2 days. CL of 400 - the $75 fee and $19 for an extra card still gives me some room to breathe. Higher interest rate but it is what it is. CREDIT RE-BUILDER, just have to be responsible and serious about getting the CS up where it should be. This is a great way to get started.. OK card you can even pick a card with a pretty picture for an additional fee...

This is a great card to get if you are trying to rebuild your credit. I've had mine for a couple of years, and while the interest rate is high they do offer other perks if you make your payments on time. One of which is a credit increase almost every six months. Also they provide me with a free credit score, I can view it each time I log into my account online. So I get to see how my credit improves over time.

It is a great credit card to have to help you get your credit up. The interest is high but if you have bad credit that is why it would be higher because some people don't like to pay their bills and then either ignore them or file bankruptcy. My credit is not the best because of some things out of my control but this will help me get it going back up.

Mar 27, 2015
The card was easy to get considering I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit. I didn't have to give any money to get the card but there was a $75 annual fee right up front. I received my statement a couple of days after I got the card. The statement showed the $75 fee with a $25 minimum payment due. I guess you can't complain to much and it's the price you pay when your credit gets damaged. I appreciate the oppurtunity to have a small credit line in case of an emergency. At least I didn't have to send money upfront and my line of credit was higher more

I am so glad that I was approved for this card! I drive for a living, so I really like that this car earns gas rewards. However, I am not very fond of the annual fee - I feel like it basically takes away some of the rewards I earn. The interest rate is slightly lower than others cards I have, but it is still quite high. I have not used this card for cash advances or any purchases other than gas, but overall its a good card to have for drivers like me.

This is a great Visa card. I am so glad that I applied for this card as it has a pretty low interest rate and the rewards are fantastic (such as, getting money back for gas purchases)! I actually prefer using his card over other major credit cards. For example, the customer service representatives at Credit One are very professional and helpful every time I call. I have never experienced anyone who was rude or disrespectful from their helpline. Also, I like the fact that this card does not have any transfer fees as well. Overall, I would recommend this card to anyone that I know.

I love this card! I can use it virtually anywhere because it's a VISA. And getting money back for gas purchases is like a bonus! I always forget about that and then when I see my bill I'm surprised about how much I've earned back. And it's got a really low annual fee and NO transfer fees. That makes a huge difference compared with other cards that do charge you for transfers. Those fees can rack up quickly. My credit score has gone up 40 points since I have been using it for the last several years. I do not use it a whole lot but I always pay it more
