What cards will allow me to recharge my kids card across the country in college? Online with one of my credit cards or debit card would be best for me.
When it comes to prepaid cards for this purpose, you should look into the following two cards: SilverCard Prepaid > http://www.cardhub.com/d/silvercard-prepaid-mastercard-236c/ (allows PayPal transfers in addition to bank transfers) Amex Prepaid > http://www.cardhub.com/d/american-express-prepaid-card-569c/ Also you might want to consider opening a checking account for your kid with the same bank that you currently use so that you can easily transfer money from one account to another. Last but not least, you may also want to consider co-signing for a student credit card that you can then pay online every month. That way you will enable your kid to build up their credit history at the same time, which as you know can be a tremendous asset. Here is a list of student credit cards to consider: http://www.cardhub.com/credit-cards/student/
OK, so I just activated my very first green dot card, but the persont hat I talked to from greendot said that the information wasnt verified through a third party resource or what not, and that I can't recharge my card and must cancel it after the balance is ended.. ive never done anything with these kind of cards before and I'm wondering now how bad this actually is? does this mean that someone has used my information before for this type of thing? this is sort of unsettling so, help?
The next step that you should take is go to annualcreditreport.com and get a FREE copy of each of your 3 major credit reports. Then review the information and make sure that everything is accurate. If you find any issues please dispute them right away - http://www.cardhub.com/edu/credit-report-dispute/ Also is it possible that GreenDot does not have your correct SSN or Address info because of a typo or something? You should also confirm with them that they do because that might also be causing the issue. Please keep us posted and will try your best to help you!
its all good now, you were right. I was using google chrome on my mac and it was acting silly. then I tried firefox and it went through. Thank you!
I'm trying to register my visa gold debit card online so I can make online purchases but its not working at all. it just leaves me at the please wait screen. what's going on?
You might want to try a different internet browser. Let us know if that works and if not we will notify Greendot.
Added money from bank card to greendot and it hasn't been added to my card!!
Can't use prepaid card at pump....why
When you use a prepaid card or debit card or credit card at the pump, the issuer does not know how much gas you are going to pump so they usually make sure you have at least $50 in your account before they grant you their approval. If you had at least $50 and got declined you should call the customer service number on the back of your card. Another solution, would be to pay at the cashier rather than the pump because doing so allows your prepaid issuer to know how much exactly you will charge.
Worst experience of my life (almost)...set all my bills and ebay up on the visa for along time, then because I use it to much they decide to block it, how embarrassing and difficult to explain to all. These cards suck and I'll spend the rest of my days telling anyone I run across
had the same prob with my tennants paying in mich on my green dot. They cancelled me cuz they said I had too much activity! Then sent me a checj for my balance that i had to wait for 7 to 10 days! It was cheaper than wire transfer though!
I need a 14 digit prepaid card which one do I need?
How many digits a prepaid card should not be of concern. All that matters is whether your prepaid card is a MasterCard or VISA card, because that determines which merchants will accept your card. So depending on where you are planning to use your prepaid card you should check whether they accept Visa or MasterCard or both and then apply for the least expensive card.
Card Hub my friend is in prison and to get commisary they use the 14 digit card
Bob Robert -- All cards issued by Visa, MasterCard, and Discover have 16 digits. All American Express have 15 digits. As a result, there isn't a credit card, debit card, or prepaid card that has 14 digits. Please check with them again on what payment methods they accept.
this card suck.
Can you transfer money to another gold visa prepaid customer?
Unfortunately Green Dot does not offer the ability to cardholders to transfer money from one prepaid card to another. Instead you might want to check out the Mango Prepaid Card: http://www.cardhub.com/d/mango-prepaid-card-642c/ ,but watch out for the ATM fees on that card because unlike the Green Dot Card it does not have any in-network ATM's where you can withdraw cash with $0 fees.
Lol yes thanks I figured that out once I activated it thanks tho :)
I just recieved my new card but when I use it do I press credit and sign or do I use debit? It will ask for a pin tho and I don't have the pin or what is it so I can use it
The simple answer is that you can use either and pressing credit on the terminal is completely fine if you do not know the PIN for your GreenDot card. According to Green Dot's terms and conditions they say: "When you signed up for the Card, we mailed a Personalized Card to you. Before you can use your Personalized Card, you will need to activate it and choose a Personal Identification Number ("PIN") by phone at the number on the sticker on the Personalized Card, respectively. You cannot use or reload your Personalized Card until you activate it." So maybe you already have the PIN that you need for making purchases and pressing debit on the POS terminal.
I like the sounds of this card, but would like to know what the costs would be if I am not direct depositing the min $1000.00 per month?
The main difference between loading $1,000 per month on your GreenDot prepaid debit card and not is the $5.95 monthly fee. Keep in mind also that you do not have to use direct deposit in order to load the $1000 and avoid the monthly fee, you can use any method to load that money.
What does Greendot concider in network atm's? I have times when I need to use an atm but I'm getting tired of paying the $2.50 to GD and then the extra 2 or 3 dollars the business charges.
In order to avoid the Greendot ATM fees you should use a MoneyPass ATM. Here is the link to the MoneyPass ATM locator page: http://www.moneypass.com/atm-locator.aspx
Anyone know why a prepaid gift card you receive as a gift would ask for your home phone, birthdate AND SSN to activate the card? Seems very WRONG to ask for this to me.
The reason why all prepaid cards, including the GreenDot card, require personal information is because they are designed as alternatives to checking accounts. Among many other things, reloadable prepaid cards enable users to deposit their paychecks in their accounts, pay bills, withdraw cash from ATM's, etc. As a result, prepaid cards are not suited to be given as gifts. Instead you should look at purely gift card options, which are also offered by Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover. Finally, keep in mind that gift cards that are not associated with a particular store carry fees. Here is a link to lots of different gift card options: http://gifts.cardhub.com/us/gift-cards/
Card Hub - Thank you for clarifying this. My mother sent my daughter this type of card as a birthday gift and must have been confused as to the type of card this actually is when she purchased it.
can I use on international sites as well as domestic?
You can use use your GreenDot card wherever Visa or MasterCard are accepted, which obviously includes international websites and locations. It is highly recommended that you call GreenDot and notify them prior to using your card internationally so that your transaction(s) does not get flagged as fraudulent and gets declined. Also please keep in mind that there is a 3% international transaction fee.
@[24290186404:274:Card Hub] does that apply to the ATM transactions as well? I am taking my GreenDot card to Thailand and will use it to make ATM withdrawals only.
Tina Grissom - For international ATM withdrawals you are subject to the $2.50 fee + whatever fee the ATM owner charges + 3% of the amount of the ATM Transaction. Most importantly, call GreenDot's customer service department and let them know of your travel plans so that they do not flag these transactions as fraudulent and your ATM transactions get declined. When you call them please confirm the above fee structure and let us know if it is not correct. Have a great time!
How would I get my paycheck direct depoisted? I reallu need to know by tonight...
In order to get your paycheck deposited on your GreenDot Card there are two steps: 1) ask your employer what paperwork you need to submit and 2) call Green Dot's customer service and ask for both the routing number and account number that you need to provide to your employer in order to initiate the direct deposit. Please keep in mind that depending on your employer it might take up to 1 month in order to see your paychecks deposited directly on your prepaid card or checking account.
I'm so mad right now. I just activated my personal card a little bit ago but I don't have a pin# and I called customer service to get one and they ask you to put your birthday for verification reasons and each time I put my birthdate it says it doesn't match there records. And I know for a fact I put the right date and I can't even talk 2 anyone. What am I doing wrong?=(.
There’s been a lot of talk about prepaid cards recently as major banks are adding new fees for debit cards thanks to the Durbin Amendment and prepaid cards can work as alternatives for people who would like to replace their checking accounts. So I decided to see what these prepaid cards have to offer. This Green Dot Gold Prepaid Card is the first one I’ve looked at in-depth and it seems to be a pretty good deal. People of all levels of credit can get it, there’s no monthly fee if you load at least $1,000 per month or make at least 30 purchases, and there’s no ATM if you use an in-network ATM. A look at Green Dot’s website confirmed that the 18,000 in-network ATMs this page says Green Dot has is indeed accurate too. Let me tell you, that’s not a small number. I work at a mid-sized bank whose name you definitely know and it only has 2,400 ATMs. You can therefore probably get by without ever paying an ATM fee. The $1,000 monthly deposit requirement isn’t that bad either, especially considering that prepaid cards allow direct deposit. They also allow you to pay your bills online, make purchases—basically anything you can do with your checking account, except of course write checks. As a result, I’d highly recommend this card to anyone.
I have one but I cant activate it it only has 14 digits not 16...HELP!
Where did you get your GreenDot Prepaid Card from? Does it have the Visa or MasterCard logo?
It has a visa logo and i bough from Wallgreens
