I bought a PRE PAID card for my grandsons birthday! He could not activate it with out giving out a SS#. This was the biggest pain in the ass card I have ever purchased and will never recommend it to any one nor will I ever buy one again! I have purchased pre-pay cards before and NEVER went through such trouble.I was told this procedure was necessary to prevent terrorism! Give me a break!

I don't like using credit often, so this is a great alternative. The Green Dot card is very convenient to have. I like how this card allows you to load money from websites like like Paypal and Amazon because it links your personal information to the card. After a few short steps online, I was able to get this card for a low fee and now I can use it as I would any other prepaid debit card. I have read many negative responses about this card which lead me to be skeptical at best about using it. After using it for over a year now, and having no problems, I would have to say that I appreciate having and using this card.

I purchased a Green Dot card a few years back at a CVS and used it for a few weeks then I received my other card in the mail (the one with my name on it) I have been using my Green Dot card for a while and I have not had any problems with. I have had people tell me me that they have had nothing but problems, not being able to put money on it, money being withdrawn that they didn't withdraw, but personally I have not had anything like that happen. I have been able to load money on it and deposit money without any problems and I have never had any unauthorized transactions occur. Overall I like the Green Dot card.

I actually haven't had any problems with my GreenDot card. The only problem I have had was getting money back on my card when a refund was concerned. I ended up waiting somewhere around 2 weeks to get my refund. If I didn't have bills to pay with that money, I wouldn't have been to concerned. I have had direct deposit for a long time and the money was always on time. I have had my Greendot card for over 3 years now and I have been pretty satisfied with it. I probably wouldn't switch it up for anything else out there.

I've asked this question everywhere with no clear answer. I purchased the green dot cards last year because I planned to purchase a lot of furnishings for my new home online. I've never felt comfortable using my bank issued debit cards online because I don't feel I know enough about computers to be able to protect my personal information from hackers. So, anytime I intend to make online purchases or pay by phone, I always load money onto a pre paid debit or credit card. After my orders had all gone thru and the transactions were completed, the green dot accounts were closed. It has been 6 months and a couple of large order that I placed have still not been delivered. They've been back ordered twice. And I had to purchase the items from someone else. Which now has brought me to my problem. The company will cancel my order and fully refund my money. However, they can only credit my purchase back to the card that was used to purchase the item. And those cards have been canceled. Does anyone know what will happen to my refund if it's credited back to a closed account?

They give a balance online that shows there's still money on your card when there isn't. They turn off your card without alerting you, if you call to speak to an agent. This card has been a complete disaster, and the agents give out misinformation on the phone, too. Do not use this card if you need to count on having money. Huge mistake.

I have $23.00 left on my card but am getting declined everywhere I try to make purchases. When I contact customer service they keep feeding me the same line of BS that there is nothing wrong with the card, and to verify my information and try the purchase again. Basically I am stuck with a card that has funds, but I can't use. It's only $23.00 but it's my $23.00. People do not buy this card! I learned the hard way!

This card has done no wrong for me. I purchased my card the convent 7-11 station down the street, and was using the temporary card within minutes via a super-easy to follow online activation process. When I had a problem activating my real card when it arrived in the mail just a week later (I had accidentally given my birthday wrong during the sign up process!), customer service was easy to get in contact with and quickly handled my issue. I would highly suggest this card to someone who can't qualify for a 'real' credit card, but still want the benefits of being able to use one, without a lot of hassle.

I recently got a Green Dot card and I am very happy with it. I purchased it at CVS. I had to pay $5.95 to activate it. Once I registered it with them online, they sent me a permanent card with my name imprinted on it. It is very easy to set up direct deposit or online bank transfers. When I do a transfer, I usually receive my money the next business day. As long as I do at least 30 transactions a month, there are no monthly fees. They will also waive fees if you transfer $1000 a month but I stick with the 30 transactions. I love the fact that I don't have any credit card bills anymore!

We have used this card for quite some time and have really enjoyed it. It is easy to use and easy to pay off. We use this card regularly for many purchases because of the Bill Pay option. Even though there are fees associated with this card we feel like they are lower than many other cards out there. The customer support has been great, although we miss being able to talk to a live person right off the bat. Even with its glitches, we highly recommend this card. Visa is very reliable and most generally accepted everywhere you go, so its handy and easy to use.

I got a GreenDot Visa for my husband to purchase items on the internet about a year ago. We like the fact that we can add money when we want, and that you can’t overdraw and incur fees. I have found that GreenDot is accepted almost everywhere, including using it for international purchases. There are a few things that I don’t really like. One, that I can’t transfer funds from a bank account easily. The nearest loading store is 25 miles away. I also think the monthly fee could be a little lower. $5.95 for not loading at least $1000 per month seems a little excessive. We do like GreenDot enough that we got a second card for another family member.

The Visa Greendot card is a good card for a one time use. But I would not recommend it as a full time card. First of all, they charge almost six dollars a month to keep the card active. And if there are no funds, you will have a negative balance. There are plenty of other cards that do not charge a monthly fee, such as BlueBird by American Express. I would only use these to buy gift cards for friends and family. Also, the fees at the ATM and the fee for adding money (usually $4) all together adds up to over $12 worth of fees, and that is if you only use it one time. Skip this card and go with a cheaper card.

Just wondering if I only use the green dot card one time and use up the money I put on it. Will it still charge me monthly fees? I only need to use it 1 time. And I don't want it to eventually effect my credit.
