You cannot reload the card unless you have an SSN. Legal residents in the US have SSN's.

My boyfriend purchased Green Dot Gold temporary card from 7-11. He put $130 on it. When I went to use it, it kept declining everywhere I tried to use it. I call the 800 numbers on the card and the receipt, it's asking for the card number and last four digits to my social security number. I don't have for this temporary card. I don't have another number. Every 800 number I call ask me for the same thing and then says goodbye and hangs up on me. I have not been able to get to a customer care representative to even get a replacement card that works.

they lie and say that our money is safe on the card. and then they let fraud charges go thru.. when i contacted them about it. they told me to wait two weeks and call them back if i want the fraud refunded. why sit around and wait to be ripped off???? DONT TRUST YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY

Whatever your issue is with banks: I can assure you is NOTHING compared to the service of Greendot!! Their overall service is horrendous. The service agents do not help. Their policies are flawed and for all this you are charged!!! DO NOT RISK USING THIS AWFUL CARD for longer than a few days!

I bought the card from walmart and on the package it says you can withdraw cash from ATMs at no fee and once I activated the card in my account it says you can use this card on any ATM. I called the customer service they said we don't say that on the package. Terrible customer service, a lot of hidden fees. Waste of money to get this card.

Hidden fees, crapy customer service, no reimbursement, monthly charges even into negatives. Burn every dollar off and through in trash before the month is out. By a new one never reload.

I brought this card to use instead of my debit,or my-american express to limit what goes out of my pocket,used my social,and other information.I could never talk to a live person to fix problem.I will take this loss,and call it a lesson learned. I believe there should be an investigation of a scam by the the better business bureau,because if I spent about $40. how many other people spent more or less to have a working card to try to build their credit. Bought card used no problem but let it sit for three months and they burned me for having the card $5.95 a month until I went $11.90 in the negative. I dropped another $500 on it at Walmart and they charged $3.95 loading fee. When I checked my balance it said I had $488.10 so the card I thought I had money on cost me $15 plus to add money on. New card all day $3.95. You have to go online to read all the hidden stuff they don't advertise. Crappy customer service from out of country that tell you you should have checked before you agreed. You cannot use a prepaid card to build your credit because they don't report your usage/payments to any credit bureau. You have to get a Secured Card to do this. Big difference. Prepaid cards don't operate the same as Secured Credit cards. With a secured or unsecured card you are making payments monthly. This is how you build credit. Fingerhut is another good way to build creedit.

It is a scam. Packaging states it can be used at ATM's but once purchased & you can legally open package, the card states "NO CASH OR ATM ACCESS".

They don't even deserve one star, their bill pay is a scam. They tell you one date, when in fact they didn't even pay the bill. Their customer service kept me on hold for close to an hour, only stating there was nothing they could do. People try to do the right thing in getting the money to the utility providers, and they just don't even care. How does the story end? I end up getting my utilities shut off, and their response, "It take two business days to post." My advice? Don't waste your money. After reading some of these review, how can anyone even give them one star. more

I have a credit that was supposed to be posted back to the debit card and Green Dot is holding it. I will never buy another one of these cards again. They said that it takes 14 days for the credit to clear. Baloney!!!! I've yet to see the credit

Yes!!!! I am going thru the same thing right now with my walmart money card! I tried to get $100 out of an ATM on saturday 4/4/15 and the ATM only dispensed $20. They debited my account for the whole $100 but immediately issued a credit. The credit is finally showing online as my available balance but I can't use it. I called their so called customer service and they said it could take until the 15th to post. This is crap. It wasn't my fault and this is all the money I have until payday (the 15th, ironically). I have dealt with this card company for numerous years and I have so many different cards I can't get anymore;nor do I want any.This is the sorriest customer relations business that I have had dealings with in a long time.It is important for this company to receive their payments and money upon time rendered .But for us to receive money due to us from such reasons like a refund of our hard earned money already been paid to them we have to prove our purchase as well as wait weeks for our payment.BS u can take our cards and shove it I wont give anymore money to a lousy more

Green dot is a company on the brink of trying to be a monopoly. BECAREFUL. The FIRST time they tried to cut me off for reloading my card at to many locations but i had my receipts so they couldnt. This time I WAS USING MY CARD TO PAY FOR MY RENTAL CAR. THEY CANCELED MY CARD AND SAID THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL WHEN THEY BELIEVE YOUR TRANSACTIONS ARE SKEPTICAL. i got more of a question than a review i have got a prepaid debit visa card from walmart and my balance is $ .18 now halloween is coming up and i wanna buy a costume and im putting $40 on my card now my balance after spending is $2.89 and theres a 3 dollar charge my reloading network is green dot i wont have the 3 dollars for the charge every month will they make me repay it next month or will they just charge me for the 2.89 and then take the 3 dollars in full next month plus charging me ano ther 3 dollars next month making more

I've had the green dot card for 3 years now and have had no problems with it,as a matter of fact it will let you overdraw a couple dollars if you are at mcdonalds and spend 7.00 for instance and your balance is only 5.75,the card will cover it anyway,and take it the next time you add money,you only get charged a monthly fee if you don't use it very often,as long as you use it a couple times a week it doesn't charge,I also get money at ATMs but to avoid fees most stores,gas stations etc offer cash back at no charge.

Donna thanks for the great feedback. Just a couple notes, in most cases we will decline the transaction if there is not enough available balance to cover a transaction. The monthly charge applies any month that you have the card active, but we waive it if you load $1,000 or more or make over 30 qualifying transactions in a billing cycle. Most retailers don't charge for cash back and we don't either, but check with the retailer because some do. Hopefully one of the employee will read my comment. I purchased greendot gold card and put 450usd in it at target yesterday 21aug2015 but was unable to register it. The amount is for medicine of my ailing mother. The medicine can be ordered only online. I am working on a ship. I have tried registering the card the whole day but unsuccessful. I tried calling customer service several times but with no further assistance. Im begging you now, could you please register my card for the sake of your conscience and good heart. That amount i earned with my blood and sweat under the sun working at ship for 12hrs more

PLEASE DONT BUY. SCAM. They take your money. FALSE ADVERTISING. NO REFUND policy in store. I got a card for 20. I was told I could NOT GET CASH BACK OR RELOAD OR GET A REFUND. So now I to wait two weeks to get 20 dollars back in a form of a check in the mail and another 300 on top of that. If you read the packages it states ATM withdraws, cash back, Reload the card. Then when you call to activate it they tell you you can't. You need personalized card. So they can get you with service fees. They have much better prepaid cards at check more

When you get a Green Dot prepaid reloadable debit card at one of your retailers, you get a temporary can to use once registered to make purchases until the personalized card is received. No Temporary card or Temporary card Number can be used for ATM transactions, other cash withdrawals, or with merchants outside the U.S. (including foreign websites). DO NOT get any of these cards unless you absolutely have to. I would never trust to have pay checks to be deposited on there either. Your account tends to freeze for an undertimined amount of time during their maintenance. I'm talking 1 to 5 day that you cannot spend your own money. Then to reload money requires the purchase of a MoneyPak reload card of $5.95 each (same as PayPal), and can reload up to $500 maximum for each reload. DO NOT USE THIS CARD!! they canceled my card twice with out me calling or asking. so when i go to put money or have money sent to me i can not use it. and have to wait for a new card to be sent. the customer service people are rude and always say that its your fault. and that i called and reported it lost when i never did . this is the worst decision i have ever made using this card.

My husband and I buy a card every month to pay for our video game subscriptions online and have done so without a hitch for a while until this month. (We buy a new one every month to avoid the $5 fee - it's cheaper to just get a new one.)

We do the usual - entering the 16 digit number etc, and it fails to go through. Wait a day for the $1 hold to get back on the cards because we only put enough on there to pay for the game. Try again. Still isn't working. I talked to the game company customer support and they said it wasn't more

To use a Green Dot prepaid reloadable card you for subscription based services, you need to have your personalized card, not the temporary card you get at our retailers. Temporary cards are restricted from being used for cash back transactions, international use and any merchant that processes a charge as a recurring payment(even if you are only making a one-time payment, some companies have a merchant code which registers as a recurring payment. Horrible Service, No one to speak to when you have a problem. I had my card over a year I pay all my bills with it. Then the other day they block my card and then closed them because I had to unusual activity on my card. The agreement says you can load up to 2999 per day but can the amount can not go over 2999. Bait and switch they do not let you do that. Green dot sucks don't use walmart moneycard or any prepaid with greendot

This is terrible! A popup came on and said it was a service rep and would help me if I had any questions. I asked a couple of easy questions, one was is there a fee to add money besides the direct deposit? And I wanted to send popmoney, but it has to have a Star or Pulse insignia on the back. Which it doesn't, it's not accepted everywhere like they claim. Every time I typed something, it came right back to me with a generic paragraph. It can answer general questions on the card and we regularly review to make sure it is working to accurately answer questions. people I'm telling you stay away from this card it is screwed me over twice. The first time they took my money because they were resetting their computers and I couldn't access my funds for 24 hours. The second time my debit card got lost and they charged me $5 for a new one. It Took two weeks to get to me and I couldn't touch my money that I had in there for 2 weeks they would not supply me with my new account number for me to transfer my funds nor could I talk to a real person the only way I was able to contact anybody was more

You can find info on our fees at The standard timeframe to receive a replacement is 2 weeks, we close the card and don't provide access until you receive the replacement for security. I love having a prepaid card because then I can only spend a certain amount of money. I'm restricted on how much I can spend. I don't like it because some places have trouble taking this kind of cards. It kind of defeats the purpose.

Avoid this card at all costs. Terrible customer service (you can't speak with anyone inside the US, they will not transfer you to a supervisor, they can shut your card down at will for "questionable" purchases even when those purchases are from businesses you frequently use and you speak with them stating all is well) Try emailing them to explain anything when they just allow 300 characters!!!
