Rewards
Get a 15% discount on your first L.L.Bean purchase upon approval with the new card.
Earn 4% back as Bean Bucks on all eligible net purchases from L.L.Bean (valid only at L.L.Bean’s businesses in the U.S.)
Earn 2% back in Bean Bucks on all eligible net purchases from gas stations and restaurants. Terms Apply.
Earn 1% back in Bean Bucks on all other purchases.
Redeem 1 Bean Buck for $1 at L.L. Bean. No minimum and no expiry.
Sign-up discount present. The best retailer-affiliated credit cards give you a first-purchase discount of 15% or more. The best rewards cards overall give you $400+ in travel rewards for spending $3,000+ within the first three months or so. The L.L.Bean Mastercard, on the other hand, offers 15% off your first L.L.Bean purchase upon approval (valid only on same website visit).
Good (but not great) rewards. The L.L.Bean Card rewards users with 4% back as Bean Bucks on L.L.Bean purchases, 2% at restaurants and gas stations and 1% on everything else. In other words, you will earn $4 in store credit for every $100 that you spend at L.L.Bean, $2 for every $100 spent at restaurants and gas stations plus $1 in credit for every $100 spent elsewhere. You can redeem 1 Bean Buck for $1 on L.L.Bean purchases with no minimum.
No annual fee is to be expected. Very few retailer-affiliated credit cards charge annual fees, and the L.L.Bean Credit Card is no exception to this rule. Its lack of an annual fee does, however, give you the flexibility to get the card solely for L.L.Bean spending. It’s also nice to know that you’d be saving $22.29 per year relative to the average credit card, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report.
Steep creditworthiness requirement. The L.L.Bean Mastercard Credit Card requires good or excellent credit for approval. That makes it harder to get than most other retailer-affiliated credit cards, which generally require only fair credit. Granted, most of those other cards can only be used at the stores they’re affiliated with. But that still doesn’t change the fact that you should check your credit score for free prior to applying.
High APR. Unless you feel like overpaying on interest, don’t carry a balance from month to month with the L.L.Bean Credit Card. After all, your APR could skew higher than the rates assessed by the average credit cards for people with good credit (24.12%) and excellent credit (18.04%), respectively, according to WalletHub research.

Citibank called a few months ago to inquire whether I was making charges in another region. I was impressed that they caught it. Then I got a new card and started to use it. Every other purchase was declined by Citibank, so I called them and asked why they were refusing so many transactions. Basically, they said that's just the way it is. Last week, I put my auto insurance payment on the card, and it was also declined. State Farm sent me a bill for $35.00 for the declined card. I called Citibank back and was again told that it's just the way it is. I tried to buy tickets to a Diana Ross concert this morning and, yep, it was also declined. This card was good for L.L.Bean Bucks, but if I can't use it, why bother? L.L.Bean, do better than Citibank.

Wow. Customer service communication is sub-one star. I needed to close out my 95-year-old mom's account. Even after the card expired and was cut up, fraudulent purchases still accrued four and five months later. I faxed my power of attorney. Transmission was confirmed but unacknowledged. I sent checks that were cashed but not credited to the account. Interest and fees were applied to unacknowledged payments. Wow.

Although I have always had stellar credit, not only was I denied a card, it dinged my credit score. Over the years, I have held an LL Bean card, ordered happily, and paid promptly. Yesterday I wanted to save on shipping for a pair of shoes. Since, as a rule, I do not carry any debt on my credit cards, I was turned down for an account. Shame on LL Bean for only catering to those they can make interest income from.

I have been an LL bean card holder for 20 years and have spent tens of thousands of dollars. I had a dispute of $39.95. It was a Facebook add scam. I was supposed to be shipped a bamboo serving tray and was sent a 3 inch spoon and fork. I was not able to get a refund from the company. I filed a dispute with LL Bean. The dispute is handled through snail mail. First, LLBean wanted more information, which I sent 12 pages. I was told the dispute was rejected because I had the merchandise, which I didn't and was clearly shown in my paperwork. I called again and they couldn't find my paperwork, then they did find it. I was assured that it would be reopened. I called again, it wasn't reopened. I was told to write another letter. Terrible experience!

I have an LLBean Credit Card and through their service took out 2 promotional balance offers for balance transfers. When working with customer service online and on the phone, the support is inconsistent and very frustrating. My requests for making payments towards the promotional awards are still not resolved. I do not recommend using their promotional services offers.
