With the Giants winning the Super Bowl yesterday, it’s inevitable that longtime fans (and bandwagon riders) will look for ways to express their fanhood so that everyone knows they “follow” the world champs. Many will finally get a Sports Illustrated subscription just to get the Super Bowl memorabilia, others will go out and buy every last Victor Cruz, Manningham and Eli Manning jersey on the shelf, and still others, not content with having their shelves and closets adorned with Big Blue themed gear, might apply for New York Giants Extra Points Credit Card so that their wallets will also feel the Vince Lombardi Trophy love. Since opening the wrong credit card can be a significant opportunity lost and you do not want to overpay for branding, you should look into what the Giants Credit Card offers before hitting the submit button on your application. As far as rewards go, the Giants Extra Points Card offers 20,000 bonus points after your first purchase, which are redeemable for $200, 1% cash back on all purchases, 20% off purchases made at NFLShop.com, and exclusive access to tickets, sideline passes, and team personnel. That all sounds pretty good, but whether you are looking for a lucrative initial bonus or ongoing rewards, there are better options than the NY Giants Credit Card. Besides, the 20% off at NFLShop.com isn’t really all that useful unless you already spend a lot at NFL Shop and you’ll likely have to charge a heck of a lot if you want to get tickets, sideline passes, etc. For most Giants fans, it’d make more sense to not get the Giants Credit Card and instead get a much more rewarding card whose rewards you can use to buy Giants stuff if you so choose. Some good cards to look out for are the Chase Sapphire Preferred ($625 initial bonus) and the Capital One Venture Card (2% cash back on all expenses as long as miles are redeemed for travel). The good thing about Capital One cards is that you can personalize the entire front of your card with a picture of your choosing, meaning you can turn it into a Giants credit card without sacrificing value. When it comes to rates, the New York Giants Extra Points Credit Card offers 0% on balance transfers for 15 months, which is actually pretty good, but when you consider that three different Citicards offer 0% on purchases AND transfers for 18 months, the Giants Card isn’t the best option on the market. Ultimately, whether or not you should get the Giants Credit Card depends on how much you typically spend through NFL Shop or how much you are planning to pay in the near future. If 20% off on these purchases would be more beneficial to you than other cards’ rewards, get the Giants Card. You shouldn’t use it for transferring a balance though because there are cards available that offer 0% for longer and any purchases you make when revolving a balance will begin accruing interest immediately because you wont have a grace period.
