Green Dot primor® Visa® Classic Secured Credit Card Review

3.3 / 5
Cheaper than Gold, as long as you pay in full. The Green Dot primor Visa Classic Secured Credit Card has a $39 annual fee, which makes it $10 cheaper than its sibling, the Green Dot primor Visa Gold Secured Credit Card. The only advantage Gold has over Classic is a lower regular APR, but that shouldn’t matter because carrying a balance from month to month with a secured card doesn’t make a lot of sense. You won’t be able to purchase anything you can’t afford with cash, given that your spending limit equals the amount of your refundable security deposit. This is not to say the Classic primor Credit Card is the cheapest available secured card, however. Quite the contrary. It’s about twice as costly as the average credit card, market-wide, and $39 more expensive than the best secured credit cards, which don’t charge annual fees.
$200 minimum deposit. Some secured cards require a minimum deposit of as much as $600, according to WalletHub’s database. The Classic primor Credit Card’s $200 minimum obviously is preferable, but there are plenty of other options with such a low deposit requirement, and many of them are cheaper.
Better ways to build credit. At the end of the day, it should be clear that the Classic primor Credit Card is not the best way to begin rebuilding your credit standing. Approvability and low fees should be your top priorities at this stage, and you can find more attractive combinations of the two from other offers. If you would like a personalized recommendation for which card to apply for, just sign up for a free WalletHub account. Should be negative 100 stars. I moved and lost my card but when call in it's pointless because I don't have the card number to report it lost and company refuses to allowe access to account on phone and on app because I don't have it. Email phone number both had to change because when card was lost so was my phone thus I had to get new phone new phone number and email address as well. So my credit building account is indefinitely going to damage my credit score. Total BS.

I applied a month ago and they took my deposit almost 3 weeks ago and still will not validate my card. Their customer service people are nice but is only open M-F and they have told me repeatedly that the problem is fixed and I don't find out that it isn't until I try to make a purchase. They are the most disorganized and inefficient bank I have ever dealt with.

I’m writing this review on May 8th, 2019. Firstly, DO NOT APPLY for this card. I applied and was approved 73 days ago and counting. I deposited $1000 on the same day I applied. I have not even received a confirmation email to say welcome to Primor. I have received ZERO communication. They have a customer service number, when you call you will be prompted over and over to enter your card number or Social Security Number. If they haven’t processed your information, the system won’t recognize your social and will hang up on you after they’ve told told they don’t recognize your social. You CANNOT and WILL NOT speak to a real person. LISTEN TO ME, I’m on my 73rd day of no card, no communication, and $1000 gone. DO NOT GET THIS CARS. Green Dot should be ashamed of themselves for doing business with whoever runs the Primor Secured Card.

It has reported to credit union and I have used my bank account to pay for it a couple of time now all of a sudden they are trying to mess my credit up saying that I need validation for my banking account. Not only that they might take up to ten days to verify. I think I am going to close this account and get my money back. I am going to report to BBB and if they say they can’t verify my account I will have to get a lawyer. This crap is crazy why after one month would I have trouble.

same thing happened to me. No issues paying with my bank debit/visa and this time ( about a week ago) they make me input all my bank details and say 10 days to credit. In the meantime, I have received TWO emails stating that I have to send them verification that the payment I made came from an account in MY NAME... Twice I have had to email them a copy of a cancelled check with my details on it... WTF is going on? plus they report to the credit bureaus under 3 different names... Primor, greendot, First Choice and Berkshire Bank. I paid the full balance off a week ago (and the money came out of my account the same day) and they are stating the same thing as they did to you... There are many other secured cards out there.... Let me know how things go for you... I am a little skeptical now.

It’s just a mean to increase your credit. But make no mistake ask god you never actually need to deal with anything service wife with them. Everything takes them longer than any credit card and I’m taking way longer. Even making a payment it takes then like 5 days to reflect. And if you have any billing disputes because someone stole your card it can take up to two months when everyone else can do it in 5 to 10 days.

The card was very helpful in rebuilding my credit after a BK..I opened with a $600 deposit--my credit scores quickly jumped up and I've since been approved for several unsecured cards with higher limits. Needless to say it was no longer necessary to have $600 tied up. I paid off my balance in mid Aug and closed the account shortly after....Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my $600 back--it's been about 6 or 7 weeks since I closed the $0 balance account. They did say it may take up to 2 months to get a check back and boy they weren't kidding---they need to say it WILL take 2 months to get your money back and that's me assuming I'll have a check in the next week or 2. My recommendation is this card is good to rebuild your credit but don't send them any money that you might need later---it will take forever to get it back even if you have a $0 balance when you close the card.
