Rewards of 1 - 3 miles per $1 on purchases
While these benefits aren't bad, the United Mileage Plus® Select Visa® Credit Card simply doesn't have as many benefits as a lot of the other credit cards on the market. To learn more, check out WalletHub's full United Mileage Plus® Select Visa® Credit Card review.
The main difference between the United Mileage Plus® Select Visa® Credit Card and the United℠ Explorer Card is their earning potential. While the United Mileage Plus® Select Visa® Credit Card offers 1 - 3 miles per $1 spent on purchases, the United Explorer Card only gives you 1 - 2 miles per $1. On the other hand, the United Explorer Card has better features for frequent United Airlines travelers, such as the first free checked bags, priority zone 2 boarding, 2 single entry club passes, among others.
However, it's still worth seeing how they stack up against each other, especially if you...
Yes, you do have to pay baggage fees when booking trips with the United Mileage Plus® Select Visa® Credit Card, unfortunately. The United℠ Explorer Card, on the other hand, does come with a free checked bag benefit. The primary cardholder's and one companion's first checked bag fee will be waived when the card is used to book flights.
You can do so by registering your account online (https://www.chase.com/online/Credit-Cards/united-login.htm) or by calling Chase's customer service department (800-432-3117).

I have been using this card for year and if you travel more than 2 times a year it will make up for the annual rate. I also enjoy getting the passes for the United Club.

The annual fee ($95) is the first thing about this card that jumps out at me. Since there are other miles cards available with lower (or no) annual fees, I wouldn't rank this at the top of my list of choices.
It's nice that they give you 30,000 miles right off the bat; this does help offset the sting of the fee a little, but given that the miles are a one-time deal, and the annual fee is recurring...well, you'll just have to weigh those two factors for yourself. If you use this card A LOT, then I could still see it being worthwhile. But if you're a more average user like me, who just charges a grand or two a month and pays it right off, I can't see it being worth your while.
The 3 miles per $1 spent on United airfares is good, but still about normal for single-airline travel rewards cards. The consistent 2 miles per $1 spent on gas, home improvement purchases, groceries and dining is what I see as being this card's greatest advantage over others. Other rewards cards sometimes bonus these, sometimes don't (or if you're talking about a weird one like Discover, they'll bonus them one month, and not another...sheesh), so getting them consistently over the life of the card is great.
It's nice in that it doesn't charge you a premium rate for balance transfers, but they still nail you for cash advances (which, admittedly, is standard practice). That said, I've seen lots of cards with worse rates than this one.
Bottom line is, if you're a dedicated United flyer who flies a lot for business, this will probably be a reasonably rewarding card for you.

This is the first credit card that I have ever had where I paid an annual fee. Getting an annual 5K mile bonus takes some of the sting of that annual fee. Overall I have been very pleased with this card. I love that I can pay my bill on my iPhone. I religiously use this card when I'm at the grocery store and gas station. The miles can really add up quick! Customer service people have always been super professional and courteous too! I've unfortunately lost my card several times and have always been send a replacement card in no time!

I have used this credit card for over 10 years and have been very pleased with it. I use it to earn miles for United air travel and, although there is an annual fee, the flights I have booked every year have covered the cost of the fee many, many, many times over. I use it for grocery shopping, for gas and for all my purchases. It is, in fact, the only credit card I use. I also love the convenience of paying my bill online, paperless statements and e-mail alerts when my bill is due. Finally, I also value the security of this credit card. If there is any unauthorized activity on my account, there is an immediate e-mail sent and everything is resolved without any additional cost to me.
