If I need emergency cash, can I get an advance?

Photo of Card H.
Sep 26, 2015
Unfortunately not. It’s like a gas-station version of a store card, which means it can only be used to make purchases at Valero locations. It’s meant to provide convenience at the pump (and encourage you to spend money at Valero) but otherwise won’t do you too many favors, such as an emergency loan in the form of a cash advance.

I have $0.00 on my Valero credit card. Can I get gas?

Photo of Card H.
Jul 30, 2016
Unfortunately not, if your available credit is $0.00. Transactions that exceed your available credit limit will be declined. You can restore spending power by making a payment.

On the other hand, if your account balance is $0.00, you’ll have no problem getting gas as long as your account is in good standing. Hope this helps!

I used it twice yesterday, went back to get a pizza last night and the card wouldn't work. Why?

I like the fact that the Valero Credit Card does not charge an annual fee, as most cards do. I also like the fact that you can earn gas rewards up to .08¢ per gallon. But I don't think my likes outweigh my dislikes. I do not see myself using this card. For one you can only use it at a Valero station and where I live the closest one is about 30 minutes away. For two you cannot use this card to get cash back or withdraw cash from an ATM. One of the biggest benefits of having a credit card to me is being able to get money more

This card is a bit of a mixed bag. The gas rewards of up to .08/gal is a nice plus, and if you drive a lot, you shouldn't have much of a problem hitting the top tier. Obviously the $0 annual fee is great as well. Also, if you don't have great credit you still have a shot at getting your hands on this card.
However, there are a few things that hold this card back, and ultimately would lead me to say that you should search around before committing to this card. First off, there are a bunch of cards out there that offer rewards on grocery items as more

The Valero Gas Card has nice reward tiers when compared to other gas cards. I don't drive too much but would be able to get mid or high tier rewards consistently. I would definitely make sure to pay this card off every month because the rate is on the high end. No annual fee is nice though, I currently pay $99 for my rewards credit card. No smart chip is a downside, I wish that cards would move to it already for the extra protection.

I was looking around for credit cards and found that the Volero Credit Card was a great deal. No annual fee really made this a great offer. Each billing cycle you are able to earn up to 8 cents off a gallon. The only downside is you need to pay it off before the interest kicks in because 23% can crunch into your savings. The savings can scale with the grade of gas as well which means you'll save even more at the pump.

Not a whole lot to like here. The interest rate on this super high. I can't imagine carrying a balance on this card. I have a credit card through my local credit union and the regular rate on the card is 7.99%. If you have decent credit and tend to carry a balance, you can do better. Now if you're using this card strictly to buy gas and pay it off monthly, you might be able to see some benefit in this card. You can earn up to $.08 off per gallon of gas, if you purchase between 75-110 gallons of gas a month. That's a lot of gas for more

The Volero Credit card is an okay card. The more gas you buy with your card the more you save on gas up to eight cents a gallon. The twenty-three percent interest rate is really high, but you can you this credit card and save money on gas. You also save more per gallon if you use higher grades of fuel. The company lets you choose the date to make your payments so you can site it up for payday. They also give you a twenty-one day grace period, but you need to pay within the grace period because the interest raises to twenty-seven percent after that. I don't really more

The Velero Credit Card is definitely not the greatest card out there. The high interest of 23% really puts this card at the bottom. However, if you are paying off your total amount each time you use it before the interest kicks in the gas savings could add up. If you have a vehicle that consumes a lot of gas this may work great for you. Saving up to $0.08 a gallon can add up quick.

My first time using the Valero card I thought, "Man, this card is not like the other ones, but get's the job done really fast". I had to tells my friends all about it. The only difference between this card and the other ones is, this one is fairly easy to receive. No hassle, no collection calls on your back when something happens. It was smooth, and cool as a breeze. Using this card was like a walk in the park - very easy. The best part about this card is, you do earn money every time you purchase gas, which helped me a lot. I cannot stay still at more

This is not a very good credit card. It has a very high APR, and the bonuses for purchasing gas are very high (I do not come close to getting it). However, I do not have much credit history, and they did approve me for a credit card. That in itself is the reason why I chose this credit card (there is also a Valero down the street from my apartment). I plan on using this card to build some credit history. If you do not have a credit history (or have a poor credit history) than you are in luck, because you will most likely be approved!

The terms of Valero gas card are awful. The 23% APR is high, and the grace period is only 21 days. There are also no rewards. There are far better options out there for gas cards (BP, GetGo, Sunoco, etc) but this card might suffice for someone rebuilding their credit.

The APR on this card is quite high compared to other cards and if you get stuck paying the penalty APR of over 27%, it is outrageous. They do offer a 21 day grace period so you should be able to avoid the penalty, but why risk it? They offer no rewards and no incentives. It is easy to qualify for this card so if you can't qualify for another card then this might be your only option. Otherwise, there are better options available.

An interest rate of 23% on the Valero Gas Card is high, but if you plan to pay the balance within the grace period the card is great for managing your gas expenses. The option to choose your due date is a good in terms of assisting you manage your cash flow. No rewards program isn’t good .

The ONLY thing that is good about this card is the 21 day grace period, which allows you to fill up your car if you are low on funds but know you will get paid soon. There are no rewards and a high APR on the Valero gas card, so it offers very few incentives. This is a card to get if you are very desperate or if you have no other options and need to build credit, but that is it.

The Valero Gas Card offers very little in the way of an incentive to get this card. The APR is quite high compared to other cards and since it offers no rewards, the only thing one gets from this is a credit card. Visa, Mastercard, and American Express all offer rewards credit cards with lower rates and much better advantages in terms of purchase protection, car rental protection, and signup bonuses. If you need a card to start building credit again and this was one of the only options available, then this card makes sense. However, my recommendation would be to try to get a card such as Blue by more

This only seems like a good option if can't qualify for another card. There are no perks to using it. You get no rewards and the interest is pretty high. I'll stick with my Disney Chase Visa.

I'm really not 100 percent sure what the benefit of the Valero Gas card is! The interest seems pretty high, there are no rewards, and there are no balance transfers! I suppose it would be a good option if you needed gas and you had no money available! There are many cards with better options than this; I would highly recommend you check those out!

The Valero Gas has some great features and some that could be adjusted. The rates on the card are higher than rates on other cards. Not allowing balance transfers is a downfall as well because if you have a current gas card it makes it difficult to switch until you have it completely paid off. The grace period is also not as long as others. The .30 back on your first 100 gallons of gas is a great feature.

The Valero card is pretty rad, almost anyone qualifies for it, and it has a 21 day grace period, great if you need a quick fill up but dont have the cash for a few days.

The Valero Gas Card sounds like a great card, especially when first utilizing it. $.30/gl up to 100 gallons is very generous and makes using this card very logical. The one negative is there is no intro rate and balance transfers are not allowed. I only like to use one card.

The greatest advantage of this credit card is that you do not need a very high credit score to qualify. However, overall, I would say this card is not worth it. It doesn't offer any benefits or rewards like other credit companies such as Discover. I don't think a credit card meant specifically for gas purchases is necessary. I see how it may help some people restrict their purchases to gas only, but if you are the type of person who can manage oneself and stick to a budget, this credit card is a waste of time. The fact that it does not offer cash back or possess a reward more

I was truly disappointed with the Valero Gas card. i no longer use it due to the hefty APR and rewards that are hardly worth using the card to option. Overall I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. More of a hassle than a gain.

When I first heard about the Valero Gas card a while ago, I imagined that it'd have similar rewards structure and benefits to what many other gas companies offer on their cards (BP etc). I also have a multitude of Valeros in my area, so I imagined that this would be a fantastic card for me! Unfortunately, the card is probably the most basic gas card I've ever seen. There are NO benefits to having this card whatsoever besides the fact that it's a credit card. My BOA CC at least gives me 2% CB on gas, which I would've expected to be higher for the Valero card if used more

This looks like an interesting gas card because not all cards have a 21 day grace period and a fair credit score required. Even though the rate and late penalties seem a bit high, the flexibility of the grace period seems to be worth it. Another great thing about this card is that you don't have to pay annual fees!

One thing that is nice about this credit card is that you do not need to have great credit in order to be accepted for the credit card. You only need to have fair credit to get this credit card. What is also nice about this credit card is that you have a 21 grace period to pay the portion that you owe. Not many credit cards have this option. For instance, when I had a wells fargo credit card, I did not have this option. Although overall, this credit cards appears good, there a just a few things that bring my vote down to a 3 star. One thing more

The Valero Gas Card seems to have very very few benefits attached to it. The only one I can think of is the generous grace period provided. Since I don't think that is nearly enough of a benefit to apply for a card, I would have to recommend against this one. For starters, it is a store card so it can only be used at Valero. Furthermore, it has no rewards structure whatsoever, so it really makes no difference to use this card for your fill ups as opposed to any other. Get a card with rewards and use it only at Valero and you suddenly have a much better more

I like Valero Gas Card, well Valero is one of my favorite gas stations because they often times have the cheapest gas in town so maybe i am biased but the card is really only good if you like Valero really. First off one of the good things is there is no annual fee which is something i always look for because there are a lot of cards with annual fees which is crazy because there are so many great ones without it. Other than that there really isn't any benefit to this unless, like i said you go to Valero often or perhaps you are trying to build your more

From what I can see the only good aspect of the Valero card is there are no annual fees, one may argue it has a generous 21 day grace period. The 23% annual interest is quite high and very unattractive. Compared with my Capital One Venture card the Valero is not worth considering. My cared provides a 1% reward for every purchase and for a small yearly fee they will double that. The annual interest rate is 16% on the Capital One is 16%.

The Valero Gas Card is a store card that has, like many other store cards, a fairly high rate at 23%. I have been considering getting a gas card in particular to save some money at the pump because some of them offer a rewards or cash back, but unfortunately this card has no rewards plan at all. This puts it behind many of its competitors such as Shell (who offer 5 cents back on each gallon). The only perk to this card is that they allow you to set the due date for when your bill is due. Outside of that there is very little reason to consider this more

The Valero Gas Card is a decent option if you spend a good chunk on fuel. 30 cents back per gallon can really add up, and is better than the terms of non-gas credits cards, that may offer up to 5%. The interest rate is asinine though. A max rate of 27.24%? No thanks. If you are going to pay your bill in full every month then this card might work out just fine for you. Otherwise the amount you are paying in interest will exceed the cash back you are earning. It also appears that the cash back terms are valid for just the first 30 months, so be more

I had high hopes for this card, as I have tons of Valero stations in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I can not recommend this card to people looking for gas credit cards. The Valero Gas Card only gives you 30 cents per gallon. This is definitely the deal killer. There are many gas cards out that offer rewards. For example, the Marathon gas card offers you 50 cents per gallon if you purchase a certain amount. Don't get me wrong, getting any rewards is leaps and bounds better than no rewards at all. Like all credit cards, just read the fine print before you decide, as mentioned by many other reviewers below.

This is definitely a decent option if you are specifically looking for a gas card. I know there are a lot of other card options out there but the reason I've used the Valero Gas Card is because it helps me manage my budget. The fact that it has a "fuel-only" option as well as a credit limit ensures that I use my money on gasoline, not the other needless things I end up spending my money on. It's quite convenient because I can use it at the pump just like a regular credit card and I can also manage the account online. In addition, payment is very flexible and more

The Valero Gas Card has certainly garnered passionate reviews. As the other reviewers say, the fine print is crucial and must be read. Compared to other gas cards (The Chase Freedom Card which gives you 5% back on gas rewards), this may fall short and not offer as many perks and incentives. The flexible payment terms i.e. choosing when you pay the bill is a great service! Also, their 21 day grace period is a huge help for those who may not be able to pay their bill on time (hey, we're in tough times!). The interest rate, though, almost negates the earning potential of 30 cents per gallon. This more

I have seen better gas cards. I do not know why this card would even require excellent credit in the first place. I do like the personalized customer service. I think that is nice to have that option. The 21 day grace period is nice. Sometimes there are rough months, so it is nice to be able to have a little extra time to pay of the bill before it could hurt your credit score. If you truly do need a gas card, I would probably look into other options that might be a little bit better, and not have such a high interest rate.

Oct 14, 2013
To begin, i've seen better gas cards that offer better rates and didn't require an excellent or even good credit score. The Fair credit score would make sense for the rate as well as the max late fee of 35 dollars. The 21 day grace period is good just in case you get caught in a rutt and unable to make your payment. However the 27.24% max interest rate is probably easy to hit even if you miss one payment at all. From what i've read also is that the offer for 30 cents off per gallon is only for the first 30 months and only on the first 100 more

The Valero Gas Card is a store credit card where you earn rewards. With an earning potential of 30¢ per gallon, it's not a bad little card, until you look at the interest rate. The interest rate is high at 23%, but it's actually a very competitive rate compared to other store cards in general, as well as other rewards gas cards. Now, you're probably thinking that 30¢ per gallon is a pretty high reward, and you'd be right. The reason they offer such a high rebate is because they only offer rewards for the first 2 1/2 years that you have the card. Still, you can save a lot more

First thing about this card, Please make sure you read the fine print, this can make all the difference between good and bad experience. I've had the Valero card an entire year now and I absolutely love it. I can honestly say they offer great rewards (again read the fine print). The bonuses last 30 months, which is why the reading of the fine print is a must. By the way that's a long time, The .30 cents received off of the gallon is actually a steal compared to what is normally given at the pump which is usually a measly three freaking cents. So no complaints over here I more

While it may get a bad rap, the Valero Gas Card is pretty fair in its rewards. It states clearly that the card only provides gas rebates for 30 months, which is 2 and a half years, which is more than enough time to get good mileage out of the card. The 30 cent per gallon coupon is also good for 100 gallons a month, which it is pretty difficult to get through every month unless you travel a lot! I would say to give this card a chance, even though the interest rate for it is a bit high.

The Valero Gas Card has a lot of fine print in it which you need to read to understand the limitations of this card. They claim to offer 30 cents off per gallon, there are two big catches. The first is that it is only for the first 30 months, and the second is that it's only on your first 100 gallons of gas. I don't know about you, but I would go through that within the first month. It's a nice little perk for opening a card with them. The only reason I can see getting this card is that it only works at Valero gas stations, so I more

At first glance, this Valero Gas Card appears to be a decent little rewards card, but if you dig deeper and read the fine print, it only last for 30 months. You receive .30 off a gallon for the first 100 gallons per month, which is nice for most people who commute short distances to work. Again, all of these bonuses only last for 30 months, not even three years and then you are stuck with a subpar gas card with a 23% interest rate. I like to look in to more long term solutions and most gas station brand gas cards will beat this card hands down over the years.

Sep 13, 2013
The rewards offered with the Valero Gas Card are really quite poor. You get 30 cents off a gallon for the first 30 months, but the fine print says it is limited to the first 100 gallons. If you do that math, that's only $30 worth of savings. For comparison sake, if you used a standard credit card that gave you 5% back on gas, and bought 100 gallons of gas at $4/gallon, you would get $20 back in rewards. So the rewards are good with this card while they last, but they don't last long at all. I would just recommend going with a regular credit card, or a more
