best credit card rates While there are various types of rates associated with credit card offers, this page focuses on the best credit card rates for purchases, which is a completely different set of cards than the best balance transfer credit cards. It has become common for credit card companies to offer 0% introductory APR periods, which can be very helpful in lowering your interest costs. However, these offers differ based on intro period length as well as the regular interest rate. Compare the options listed below (some of which originate from CardHub advertising partners) in order to find the best credit card rate for you.

EXPERT’S ANSWERS

Should I get the longest 0% APR period possible?

By: Ross GarnerAssuming you will pay off your balance in full by the end of the introductory period, most definitely yes. If you will not be able to do so, an offer's regular rate must also be part of your consideration. So keep practical payment time frames in mind when comparing credit card rates, and use a payment calculator to find out how long it will take you to pay down your debt.

What if I pay my bill in full every month?

By: Ross GarnerIf you pay your bill in full every month, interest rates are of no concern to you and you should get the best rewards credit card possible. However, if you will be making some significant purchases which will result in an end-of-month balance, finding the lowest credit card rates is advisable.

The Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card is the best credit card that I have ever had. It allows me to make purchases and get 1.5% back on everything. The best part is the 0% apr on any purchase until May 2015. The 0% apr can really help if you need to make a big purchase as well. I think that they have the best customer service and are always friendly and nice.

Navy Federal Platinum is by far the best card. A set 7.99% APR, no annual fee, and generous credit limit are the three stand outs for this card. There are not enough positive things I can say about NFCU, their credit card is no different. Awesome customer service, issues handled promptly, always actually working for you not just to get your money.

The BankAmericard® for Students Credit Card is an excellent choice with the 15 month 0% interest rate. I recently used this card and was able to save a good amount of money because of the excellent rate. I highly recommended this to a couple of my friends who were looking for a similar type card recently. If you are a student then this is the card you are looking for.

After reviewing all of the credit cards, I have decided upon the DiscoverIt card for students for it's 6 months free of APR and subsequent 12.99% APR. I am a student, so this would be the most beneficial to me as a borrower. This would be most beneficial to me in purchasing my new college textbooks, and not having to worry payments for, at most 6 months. I value this cards details because it is helping students gain the materials and equipment needed for a successful career outlook. Now that I'm familiar with this card option, I will keep it as my last resort option if I'm ever low on more

The Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards card is the best low interest card I've ever had. In my opinion, they have the best rewards that I've seen thus far. I'm constantly using this card when I go to the grocery store and run various errands. The cashback feature is absolutely amazing when I'm doing a lot of shopping. I'm spending money, but also receiving cash back all at the same time. I honestly have no complaints or negative things to say about this card. The customer service department was very effective, professional and respectful when I had to call. I'm very impressed with this card overall!

I'm not sure what it is, but capital one has consistently provided me with the best customer service with all cards I have used with them. Their staff is very kind and helpful, and is always willing to help with any question or concerns I have. There are a ton of interesting features with this card, though honestly not all of them are really totally useful. It is nice to get rewards for new purchases, but I would prefer a larger amount of cash back/rewards opportunities. I have noticed that the first time purchase bonuses do not always work correctly in their system, but calls to customer service have always more

The best credit card I have had personal experience with is the Discover It card. You don't need a long credit history for this card and they do annual increases to your credit limit. As long as you make your payments on time every month you will get increases and they add up quickly. An initial 0% interest rate allows you to learn all the basics for credit cards and money management. The discover rewards are great because you get 1% on everything you buy and then they run quarterly promotions for various things like, restaurants, gas, movies, department stores, vacation etc that you can earn 5% cash back on. more

When it comes to the best credit card rates, one of the first things you should do is contact your current credit cards and simply ask for a lower rate! The Discover It card for students has been amazing and very useful for establishing credit. It helped me get all the materials I needed while I was in college. I enjoy their cash back rewards and the fact that they have no annual fees.

The best card in my opinion for a low introductory rate is the Citi Forward Card. There are also other benefits to the card, in addition to the 0% APR for the first six months. They have great rates for someone who is young and just starting to build their already decent credit. Other examples of benefits with this card include the Citi Thank You Points system, which makes it VERY easy to earn and redeem points. They have a partnership with Amazon that lets you redeem your points for purchases quickly and without hassle. Their travel section lets you redeem points for part or all of your travel. And more

I have the Capital One Platinum Prestige Credit Card. The intro APR really can't be beat--I got a whole year of 0% interest! It's been great to use the card and build a relationship with the company while not having to worry about racking up huge amounts of interest. I'm glad that there's no annual fee (I hate those!) and the interest rates after the introductory period are really reasonable, so I doubt I'll want to close the card after the 0% interest runs out. I'm glad I got it!

The BankAmericard is best for students making new purchases. With one of the longest intro APR periods and availability for students making new purchases with limited history in credit purchases, it really helped me out as a college student when buying my first car and getting furniture for my apartment.

In my view the Discover it for Students is the best card here. I got this card when I was in college. I did not have much credit history, but I was approved. I got a fairly good interest rate and the payments have always been reasonable. I used it to buy all my books and school supplies, and made low monthly payments over the course of the school year. I was able to track everything easily using the card's website. I think this card is great, and recommend it as anyone's first card.

I have the Chase Slate Card and I am a huge fan. The card has a 0% introductory purchase APR of 0% for 15 months which is one of the best zero interest introductory offers out there. It also has a decently competitive regular APR and no annual fee. If balance transfers are what you're interested in, they have an introductory offer of 0% APR for 15 month on balance transfers and as long as you keep your account in good standing they will offer new balance transfers periodically through out the year. In addition to the regular card benefits, Chase Slate also offers some payment planning features that can more

When I was in college, the photography bug bit me and I was head over heels in love with the hobby. All i could imagine doing was clicking some great snaps with a DSLR and looking like a pro. That's when I decided to go for the BankAmericard for students. 15 months 0% intro term meant a lot to me as i would not only be able to repay the loan for the camera, but I could also save money to get a telephoto lens of my choice. The zero annual fee was an attraction to me as well as the low rates on balance transfers!

The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card for College Students. I have used this card for two years now and I haven't had one problem with this card. This card gives you the option of 15 months too pay off the balance of your card with zero percent interest rates the first year. I have no problem using this card anywhere I need to. I also use this card online too pay most of my bills. Overall this credit card is a good card too have in your wallet.

I use the Capital One Platinum Prestige card. I have fairly good credit, so I like that it has a low introductory APR for new purchases. And the BEST part is the 0% interest for the first year (looks like 15 months actually) so you have a full year to pay off your balance. I like this because I can take a little extra time if I need to pay off my balance without worrying about interest piling up.

BankAmericard for students’ credit card is great if you are looking for an extended period of no interest but you have a limited history because you are just starting out or are a student. There is no rewards program which is slightly disappointing but its other features make up for all that. The introductory offer of 15 months of no interest will allow you enough time to pay off any large purchase without having to pay a cent in interest. Also once that period ends the card is still good to have because there isn’t an annual fee and the regular APR is decent. This card is much better than more

I have the Platinum Prestige Card from Capital One. Bought it almost 7 months ago and I have 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers till Feb 2015, which is a good 10 months of interest free shopping! I love the $0 fee on foreign transactions as I quite often send money to my brother. Moreover, Capital One is renowned for their customer service and quick response. Overall, the Platinum Prestige is the best deal out here!

The best credit card in my opinion is Discover it for Students. When I am in school, I use it to purchase books and materials that I need. Such as pens, notebook, paper and binders. There is no Annual Fee which that makes a plus because I do not have to spend money on the fee. When I first received this card, I have got no APR for the first six months when using this credit card. I had a City Simplicity Card for several years. I had a year and a half during which I was not charged any interest, both on purchases and on a balance I transferred. After that, my rate was 12.99 percent, which was the best I'd seen on a credit card to that point. With no annual fee, either, this made the card fairly economical to use. There were also no late fees for those few times after my introductory period that I was a week or two late in making my payment. All in all, this was a great card to have.

The GM Card by Capital One Is a fantastic card for anyone with interest in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac offerings. Low interest rates and fantastic rewards points on purchases quickly add up to nice bonuses towards your vehicle purchases. I was able to rack up $1,000 in bonuses just from transitioning my normal spending onto the GM Card. 24 hour online global services come with the card and their always available customer service is top notch.

The best credit card that offers the lowest interest on purchases for me is the GM Card. Not only do you earn money on the purchases you make, but you also are able to save big on the first purchases you make. Your first 12 months are at 0% APR and after that it is as low as 12% depending on your credit worthiness. Great support, great people, and great help.

Having a good credit score opens the possibility of getting better card options like the Capital One Platinum Prestige Credit Card. It is without a doubt the best choice for its extended 0% APR introductory period (Nov 2014) and non-existent annual fee. The interest rate after the initial period is lower than average, which is great. This is in addition to included standard features such as zero liability, roadside assistance, card customization, travel insurance, and no foreign transaction fees.

The credit card that is the best in my opinion is the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit card. I do a lot of purchases on my credit card to help with my credit and many cards I've seen give a little bit of incentive with low rates on new purchases. The VentureOne card has 0% on purchases all the way until March of 2014, which is one year from when I got it. That has been great and I love that perk of the card.

I applied and got approved for the Capital One® Platinum Prestige Credit Card about six months ago. I decided to get the Platinum Prestige as it seemed to have a long introductory period with 0% APR so that I could take full advantage and not pay interest during that time (15 months). I've been using the card to pay for moving expenses, and it really has been helpful not worrying about paying more money in the long run. I also like that there is no annual fee to be paid, and other perks like no foreign transactions fees which comes in handy when I go to South America for business. more

In my opinion, the Student More card from Discover is the best in this category. I usually only use my credit card for rare expenses or school/tuition related purchases and I try to pay the balance off relatively quickly. With this card, even if I don't pay off the balance it's not the end of the world because my APR is not outrageous. My credit score is slightly above average and my rate is 12.99%. I think the highest rate they charge (as of now) is 18.99% apr which still isn't bad. One of my favorite things about this card was when I initially got it; for 9 months I more

I love my Citi Diamond Preferred Card because it has no annual fee. I started out with only decent credit years ago and used to only qualify for credit cards with annual fees. Well, I got this card last year and now enjoy it without having to pay to be a customer!
Another huge perk that sets this card far apart from the rest is its lengthy 0% introductory rate. Usually most cards offer 6 months or a year with no interest. This card offers 18 months! This also applies to balance transfers.

The BankAmericard for Students was the best card when I was getting started out on my own with college. With the limited credit I had(Purchased my first car with cash, no other loans or cards) I was terrified of either getting rejected or a very high interest rate. Neither of those things happened and I had that card until I got out, paid it off, and moved on. Great card!

The BankAmericard was wonderful for me back when I was student. Since I had limited credit when I applied for the card 6 years ago, I was surprised when my interest rate was only around 11-12%. Bank of America treated me very fairly, and I made sure to pay off my balance as much as I could every month. Tuition fees and books tend to add up a lot, so it was nice knowing that card was there when I needed extra help. They never raised my interest rate once. When I was on my honeymoon, we decided to do extensive travel, see a small piece of the world. Considering money was tight, we decided to use a no upfront interest card. I remember this as one of the top choices because you got 18 months no interest. It was perfect because I would be starting a new job with more pay when we returned and this would be just enough time to start saving. Citi has always been a top choice to us; they usually never have an annual fee and are fair about rates. Citi® Diamond Preferred® Card is definitely the one to choose for low interest rates more

The Discover It card for students is the best card in its category because it provides a low intro rate for a segment of the population that has very new credit history. Through my bank, Veridian Credit Union, I have a Visa Platinum card that I love! The rate has been consistently low over the years that I have had it. The lowest the rate has been since I've had it has been about 4% and the highest has been about 8%. I have not run across a credit card that has such low rates. The Citi Simplicity is a great card that I highly recommend to anyone. I have had this Citi card for 3-4 years now, and their service is always exemplary. Interest rates are great, the Extracash is a good rewards program, and Citi is just a large bank that is always there and helpful for you. Their fraud department is great too, as they have caught several attempted fraudulent charges on my account. They stopped the fraudulent charge and refunded the amount the same day. The Citi Simplicity card is currently my favorite card, and the one I use most often. It requires that the prospective user has excellent credit, so that might put off those who are interested in using it, but it has many benefits if you’ve got the appropriate credit score. This card requires no annual fee, which is great, and it has no late fees or penalties. The main feature of the card is its 0% APR offer, which is on all purchases and balance transfers, and lasts for an eighteen month period. If you’re unable to pay back the purchase in full during this period, it charges a 12.99%-21.99% APR more
