How do you transfer money from one credit card to another?

Photo of Card H.
Mar 15, 2016
Just to be clear, you can use one credit card to pay off a balance on another account, but you can’t borrow from one card’s credit line to increase the amount you’re able to spend with the other. In other words, transferring a balance entails shifting your payment obligation from one card to another in order to pay off what you owe at a lower rate of interest. You can initiate a balance transfer over the phone or online and do so either when you apply for a new card or at a later date. You will need to provide the issuer of the card to which you’re transferring the more

How long does it take to receive your card, once approved?

Photo of Card H.
Mar 15, 2016
Citibank actually has one of the longer turnaround times among the biggest credit card issuers, with new customers receiving their cards within 14 calendar days of account approval. Other credit card companies will get you a card within 5-7 business days. You can see how long it takes to get a new or replacement card from each major issuer here:

Citibank’s customer service department is in the best position to help you with that. They can be reached at 1-800-505-1675. But do let us know if you can’t get it straightened out!

Citi Diamond Preferred is the best long-term financing vehicle available to consumers with above-average credit, offering 0% on both new purchases and balance transfers for 21 months and not charging an annual fee. The two things you really want to watch out for with this card are its 3% balance transfer fee and relatively high regular interest rates. Both can really eat into the card’s saving potential, if you aren’t careful, which underscores the importance of using a credit card calculator to compare offers and budget payments. Oh, and there’s also a 3% foreign transaction fee, so this probably isn’t the card for you if your financing needs involve traveling more

I am in shock been with you guys for years and I haven't even asked for a increase and plus we are getting more money considering we got married and goes on salary and what i make. Very disappointed in citi diamond to refuse me. I even told them i would send document so now I have to wait for a letter. Not happy

I have a love and yet hate relationship with this card. I was pre approved for this card as I received a letter from citi about the pros of this card. I talked with my financial advisor and she stated to apply as citi is one of the top credit cards san chase for which to be approved. I called. I was promised awards. All of my other credit cards have points and cash back. I thought sure.
I got the card, and there was concierge service. I already have that with my Amex delta card. It also has points and upgrades. My credit score is 813. I applied and more

If Citi would just fix their Easy Deals rewards program this is not a bad card and really a pretty decent starter card. I think they are competitive until you try to use their reward system. I signed up for the card in 2011 I think. Forgot the actual month but do remember it was 2011. If my memory serves me correctly they gave me zero percent interest rate for maybe a solid two years. It could have been 18 months but I think It was a solid two years(24 months). I have to applaud them for that one. It's hard to redeem points at their auction application at their more

When I said you might get good deals on things like sweaters or travel those things were not part of the auctions. The way I wrote it above it looks like they might be part of the auctions but they were in a different section than the auctions. They might have good deals just not at the auctions and not in dining gift cards. I think the auctions just do physical items like gas gift cards or iPads and other items.

The Citi Diamond Preferred is purely meant for balance transfers and the promo 0% APR, that much is clear. In that respect, if you're using it for that, it's a great card. However, one huge drawback to me for this card is the fact that there doesn't seem to be anything truly special or unique about this card. After your 0% APR promo rate expires, this card was average to me. During the times I needed to do a balance transfer, I did not have any offers was not able to perform one to this card. All in all, this card for me collects dust, but your results may vary.|Great more

This is a great card for those individuals that are looking to do a balance transfer. I've had the card for a few years and even AFTER their wonderful promotion ended (0% on bt's for 15months) they still offered balance transfers at a 3% rate with 0% interest for various times. I use this when my promotions run up on other cards and only pay a one time 3% balance transfer fee. Sometimes it gives you an additional 12 months at 0%. Again, even after the promo ends, they will allow you to do balance transfers for a one time fee of 3%, and they will give you sometimes 6, more

Citi Diamond Preferred is my number one go to card. This card has the highest credit limit of all of my cards. This card also has promotions for balance transfers and first purchases at 0 percent financing. This is can really you alot of money. This card is excepted almost everywhere that I have tried.

Customer service could really care less about you. All they see is how to rip you off! They have supposed "catch up"/hardship plans to help you during hard times but what they neglect to tell you is that they will continue to charge you a $35 late fee every month until you are current, even though they are automatically withdrawing the agreed upon amount every month on time. Soulless people working there!!

The reason I applied for this card is that I wanted to transfer a large balance I had from another card to this Citi Diamond card since it offered a great balance transfer option. I am very pleased that it had the offer of 0% interest through April 2017. It will give me enough time to pay off the balance without a high fee being attached. I have had a very good experience so far in the 3 months I have had this card and plan to stick with this company in the future.

This is awful card.
They are thieves.
You'll never get cash back. They have some c.appy "points" and "deals" with 2x prices. Their auctions are nonsense. Discounts are useless. Literally, they just steal your money from your cash back, lying in ads.
Be aware.

The Citi Diamond Preferred card is one of my favorite credit card. i have this credit card from almost a year. it have 0% APR on balance transfer for almost two years. it have a good customer service they are very friendly and helpful. you earn points on purchase you make on this card and later you can redeem those points on great online deals, gift card and even local deals. so have fun while doing shopping with this card. i will recommend this card to friend and family as it is a good card to be used for daily purposes and there is no annual fee on this card.

You sound like you work for the company maybe just here to write a good review to make Citi look good. I already have the card but I was halfway believing until you started talking about the reward system. I almost canceled over their reward system but decided to keep it open since more available credit from the card looks good on credit report plus it's nice to have that emergency credit. Their point reward system is a joke however and I have even read other reviews to make sure it wasn't just me. Person after person hated it. On the gift cards you might get five dollars off any more

There is nothing particularly outstanding about this card. It doesn't offer perks to sign up and the APR is comparable to those other cards.

Citi always has pretty solid credit cards and they did it again with this one The Citi Diamond Preferred card is a good credit card if you are look for the basics a good APR, no annual fees. although this is a good card when looking a the base line there is no rewards program for the credit card which might have you back off since most cards now a days have some sort of rewards program may it be point based or even cash back. overall though a decent card.

While the 0% intro APR on Balance Transfers is great for someone switching over from a high rate card, the fact that this card has no rewards is a major drawback. As someone who travels a lot and puts high dollar purchases on my credit card, rewards of some kind is a must for me. The $0 liability on fraudulent purchases is also a must and a feature of this card.

The City Diamond Preferred Card has a fantastic introductory interest rate. I use the Capital One Quicksilver cash rewards card regularly, and I have to say that 18 months at 0% interest sounds very appealing right now since the Quicksilver card only offers one year. Couple that with no annual fee and a 3% balance transfer fee, and this is the ideal card for someone looking to pay down their credit card debt. The fact that cardholders are not liable for unauthorized transactions is very comforting as well. Even though this card doesn't offer cash rewards like the Capital One Quicksilver card, I still think this card is highly preferred more

The City Diamond Preferred Card has an excellent intro rate on purchases! And the City Easy Deals program looks pretty sweet. Also the City Identity Theft Solutions would give me peace of mind about carrying and using this card for my purchases. The late fee and balance transfer fees are kind of high, but I can live with that to qualify for this card.

I have had the Citi Diamond Preferred Card for about a year, and at best I can say that the card is okay. I think that the customer service is good, but I expect that from a credit card. I also have a Chase Freedom card, and I am able to speak with a service representative at any time. The single best benefit to this card is the very generous 18 month 0% interest rate. I had to pay for several months of health insurance premiums while I was between jobs and was able to take advantage of these 18 months, which was perfect for me. However, there is a more

I recently got the Citi Diamond preferred card and it my new favorite credit card for my business transactions. Although the card doesn't earn any rewards or bonuses the introductory rate of 0% for the first 18 months is just to good to pass up. All purchases and transfers made in the first 18 months will have a 0% APR, This is particularly useful for someone such as my self that has a business in which they purchase materials for projects often. The absorbent rates i was being charged on these purchases was really eating into my profits, this card eliminates these fees which means more profit for my business more

Mar 20, 2014
The Citi Diamond preferred card seems like a decent card to sign up for. I have had some ridiculous deals from other companies in the past so this one is definitely one of the better options. The Intro rate of 0 percent for 18 months is excellent, most companies i've dealt with only offer the 12 months. So having an extra 6 months at 0 percent is great. The grace period of 23 days is also a nice feature, my past cards have had slim to no grace periods. The only thing I see an issue with might be the 3 percent balance transfer, I've had lower with most of my cards.

Mar 10, 2014
The 0% intro rate of this card is a huge plus if you're just starting out. A lot of the features, like the regular rate and the grace period, are normal, but the late fee is a bit high, so this card would be best for someone with careful money handling.
Photo of Michael M.
Feb 10, 2014
The late fee is pretty high. Chase offers lower late fees, and also you can call Chase to have a refund on the late fee. Also, I can't believe there is no online response? That seems a bit odd in this day and age. The cash advance fee is also very high! Chase offers a much lower cash advance fee. It seems like this City card is not worth it. On the bright side, there is no max over limit fee.

I have used the Citi Diamond Preferred card in the past and reading over this new offering I cannot honestly say it is significantly better or different than it was some years ago. For example: 0% for 18 months on purchases is pretty much the way most cards are these days. Most all card companies like doing mainly to entice consumers into using the card (hopefully excessively) and waiting to see if the customer forgets (or cannot pay back it all) later when the rate goes to the much higher rate (in this case between 12% and 22% APR). What rate you get will depend on what your credit scores more

Citi Diamond preferred card really is a good card for people that mainly use citibank like myself. There is no annual fee for this card which is a huge bonus for people like me. Also, it gives the owner access to presale tickets,VIP seating and much more. Overall, the card simply tops any other cards i have right now and the past. I will definitely recommend it to people.

This card seems okay, but not the best. Besides the fact that there are absolutely no rewards offered, the transfer fee and interest rate is quite high, as well as the standard interest rate. I want my card to be working for me and this one does not.

The 0% APR for the first 18 months and long-term interest rates are attractive compared to most other offers and the concierge service is a plus. However, the Citi Diamond Preferred lacks the lucrative rewards programs that most of today's cards boast. This card is especially attractive to recent graduates needing a credit line without the interest rates until steady pay comes in, though consumers looking for a card to use everyday to rack up points may want to look elsewhere.

The Citi Diamond Preferred Card doesn't seem to have a high interest rate or an annual fee which is a good thing. If I were looking for another credit card I'd go with this card simply because there is no interest rate for the first 18 months.

The Citi Diamond Preferred Card is really a step above the rest. The first 18 months you get a 0% interest rate and after your first 18 months, your interest rate will only be between 12% and 20%. This interest rate is great compared to other cards! Their cash advance rate, along with their fees, are about average. The card also offers you access to online discounts, which could be as good as some companies reward programs. They even offer concierge services, presale tickets, preferred seating, VIP packages, and entertainment experiences. The perks on this card really outweigh a lot of competitors! One might initially shy away from the Citi Diamond Preferred Card because it does not have a listed rewards program, but a shrewd financial planner will be able to use the other outstanding features of this card to potentially earn or gain more than any rewards card could offer. As budget appealing as just about any of the top rated credit cards available on the market. The card first of all offers a year and a half time frame of free interest on all purchases including balance transfers. Although the standard 3% fee is attached to transfers, allowing 18 months to erase these balances is truly enticing. After the introductory more

First thing I always notice about credit cards, the annual fee. With the Citi Diamond Preferred card, there is no annual fee. Perfect! Also, the interest rate can be pretty good, with the lowest end being in the 12% range. That is good compared to some of the other cards, which normally have around 18%. This card does not have any rewards, which is why I took one star away from it. I do like how it gives your priority access to presale tickets to a number of different events. Very cool! I would say if you have the opportunity to get this card, I would not pass up on it.

The Citi DIamond preferred card which was offered through my bank wasn't bad. Although my fiance was the one who primarily used it she was able to build her credit with this card. I would call this a "beginner's card" and I wouldn't recommend you use it forever because of the steep interest rate. It was very comparable to the Matrix Card that I was using at the time. Thanks to Citi Bank we're on our way to both building our credits with this card so we can eventually buy a house.

I have The Citi Diamond Preferred Card.It does have Concierge service which Is its only perk. It is what I call my emergency card. It is the card I keep in my wallet for that unplanned purchase I need to make. You never know what will come up with kids (especially boys). I chose this card over another when opening it because of the lower rate I was offered. I was offered the lowest 12% rate, however I read the fine print and the rates can be quite high if your credit is a bit blemished or you want a cash advance. But why not just charge the stuff you more

The Citi Diamond Preferred card is a solid but unremarkable credit card. At its lowest interest rate of 12% it's a good value, but that interest rate can scale up as high as 22% depending on credit rating. The introductory rate of 0% for 18 months and the lack of an annual fee make it a good, but not outstanding card. With no rewards program to really make it stand out and incentivize use , the only perks really seem to be the concierge service offered with the card and the opportunity to access pre-sales at certain events, which are not enough to make it stand out from the crowd.

The Citi Diamond Preferred credit card is an excellent card. It's a straight forward card with some simple benefits added in. Unlike a lot of cards the Citi card doesn't have a million little ways to earn extra pennies and then gouge you with high interest rates. It's just a credit card with a low interest rate of 12 percent and some convenient services. It does have the standard high interest rate of 25 percent for cash advance but that's the only bad thing about it. It's nearly identical to my Bank of America Premium card except the Citi card offers a few services to its members. The concierge service more

I love my Citi Diamond Preferred Card. Personally, I am a die hard Citi fan and my loyalty to them runs deep so it would only be natural to gravitate toward this card. I was approved several years ago and have used this card for all sorts of purchases--travel, food, gas, shopping. There is no annual fee which was appealing to me, and not to be petty but the card looks pretty neat being black! They also have a 24/7 concierge service which really comes in handy. Their 18 month intro rate of 0% APR is what makes it stand apart from other cards, like the Capital One Venture Rewards Card. Highly recommended!

I've had my Citi Diamond Preferred Card for years. I actually never use it, I used it for a 1% balance transfer ages ago and I've just been paying it off ever since. In that time, a couple things have impressed me. When my card was stolen, I forgot to change the account number with my bank where the bill was being paid automatically. As a result, my payment was late. Citi was within their rights to charge me a late fee and to raise my interest rate. But when I called and explained the situation, they immediately refunded the late-payment penalty and assured me that my interest rate would more

I love the Citi Diamond preferred card. It has many great perks and offers. I have overall good credit and am not sure if it's right for someone who is just beginning to build their credit, but I love it so far. They have a long drawn out intro period, which is hard to come by these days and the rate for that intro period is ZERO! I was so happy to hear that. This counts towards purchases and balance transfers. The cons of this card are hard to come by. I would recommend this to anyone. Have fun shopping with Citi!

Citi Diamond Preferred is a card that is basically built specifically for balance transfers. This card comes with a pretty 18 month 0% APR intro rate for both purchases and balance transfers, that's longer than most cards which usually only have a year. It also has other perks such as the concierge service and Private Pass for your favorite shows. The only thing this card lacks is a viable rewards service, though you can still gain points from certain purchases toward discounts.
