Dell Credit Card's Additional Info
Deferred Interest Details: No Interest if paid in full within 6 or 12 months on purchases of at least $199 or $799.
The Dell Credit Card is not a good credit card. Although the Dell Credit Card has a $0 annual fee and only requires fair credit for approval, it also lacks rewards, and its financing offer could really backfire if you’re not careful.
Built for financing (on a shaky foundation). The Dell Credit Card, also known as the Dell Preferred Account, positions itself as a way to save on big-ticket electronics purchases that you can’t pay off within a single billing period. And while its offer of 0% interest for the first 6 - 12 months could help you do just that, a positive result is far from guaranteed. The Dell Preferred Account Credit Card uses a feature called deferred interest, which basically means the 0% intro rate could disappear, causing interest to retroactively apply to your entire original purchase amount, if you pay your bill a day late or don’t repay the full amount by the end of the 0% period. And since most people who can get approved for the Dell Card can also get a general-purpose credit card with a far longer 0% period and no deferred-interest trickery, there’s really no reason to use the Dell Card for financing.
Solid rewards without the card. The Dell Preferred Account advertises the opportunity to earn rewards, but you don’t actually need the card to benefit. Anyone can sign up for the Dell Advantage Rewards Program and earn store credit equal to 3% of their Dell spending.
Obscene APR. Let’s put the Dell Preferred Account regular APR into context. The average credit card for someone with fair credit charges just 26.41%, according to WalletHub research. Similarly, the average credit card for people with excellent credit has a 18.04% APR. The Dell Preferred Account regular APR exceeds both the average APR. In short, carrying a balance from month to month with the Dell Credit Card would be a costly mistake.
No annual fee is the best feature. The Dell Preferred Account does not charge an annual fee and is thus $22.29 per year cheaper than the average credit card, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report. Yet this does nothing to distinguish it from most retailer-specific cards, which similarly lack yearly fees. And that should tell you something, considering there’s really nothing else to like about the offer.
Standard credit requirement. The Dell Preferred Account is like most other retailer-affiliated credit cards in that it only requires fair credit for approval. But unlike the best of those offers, which are great regardless of your credit standing, the Dell Preferred Card is less and less attractive the higher your credit score happens to be. For example, it’s fine to use as a low-cost credit building tool if you don’t plan to actually make any purchases. But someone with excellent credit would be leaving a ton of savings on the table, whether from rewards or 0% financing, if they got this card. If you don’t know where your credit stands, you can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub.

Very Poor maintenance response, on (2)identical pc's. 1 purchased for myself and 1 purchased for my mother, with the maintenance plan for both. Had same unresolved issues w/motherboards Dell refused repairing. I swallowed the losses, ditched the pc's and have asked repetitvely, for the card to be closed, which just falls on deaf ears.
