The customer service has been absolutely terrible. I am pretty sure the person i talked to was intoxicated or on drugs. I am closing my account as soon as possible.

I kept getting pre-approval offers in mail (for almost a year). After realizing the APR on my most frequently used (and highest balance) credit card was 29%, I finally decided to take CitiBank up on their offer of 0% for the first year. After that introductory period was over I kept checking my account to see what APR I was going got be saddled with. I'm now coming up on my 2 year anniversary with this card and my APR has remained at around 18% (rate is variable, so keep in mind). Why it took me so long to switch in the first place I'll never know! Now my Citi Dividend Platinum Select card is my primary card. This card has a good mix of cash back rewards, too (plus additional benefits like travel insurance coverage, etc). When I first opened it there was a $150 cash back reward (after $500 in charges within the first 3 months, which for someone like me who uses their card to pay for everything, that was a piece of cake). No annual fees either. I highly suggest applying. Thankfully, I got approved with a generous credit line. Keep in mind though, the FICO requirement is higher for this card. Only people with a good (high end) to excellent credit with probably qualify.

The Citi Dividend Platinum Select Visa card is great. To give some context, I had an American Express Starwood Preferred Card before this. The American Express card was good because I could accrue points with each purchase, which then turned into hotel or airline miles. That said, the points are still limited to just hotels and airlines. I was looking for a card which would allow me to have CASH BACK, and this was a good option. I was able to earn 1% back on most purchases, but I was also able to get 5% back on select purchases of rotating categories; the current categories on which I get 5% back right now include airlines and car rental, Gap, Banana, and Old Navy. This is great, especially since I like to travel and shop at those stores. In addition, Citi also has approximately 400 parternships with many online vendors. You can shop Citi’s online store and get up to 20% on select vendors.

I love savings so the 5% is for me, plus the $200.00 back is great. Your going to spend that amount on groceries and gas anyway might as well get something in return...

Ok, I realize the Yankees lost, and I don’t want to hear about it (if anyone is actually following my little credit card review posts). What I want is to distract myself, and this Citi Dividend Card will certainly do the trick. Aside from giving me something to research, the main reason why the Dividend Card is so apt for this purpose is the $200 in cash it gives you after spending $500 in the first three months. I feel like I need to give myself a little present to cheer myself up, and that extra dough could really help. But that’s not all this baby’s got, there’s also the 5% cash back you can get on different spending categories every three months, the 1% on everything and the fact that it’s got no annual fee.
Ultimately though, after further review, this Citicard doesn’t distinguish itself much from the rest of the cash back credit card market (in fact, it seems practically identical to the Chase Freedom Visa) so I don’t think I’ll be opening it. Besides, by the time I get my $200 initial rewards bonus, I’ll be getting amped up for pitchers and catchers reporting and won’t need a pick me up quite so much.
