Gotta have good credit to join the club. The Sam’s Club Mastercard requires good or excellent credit for approval, which means you’d be wise to check your credit score for free on WalletHub before applying. You’re not necessarily out of luck if your credit’s not quite up to snuff though.
Modest initial bonus. You get $30 statement credit after spending $30 in the first 30 days. That’s nowhere near the hundreds of dollars you’d get from the market’s best credit card deals, but it’s better than nothing for frequent Sam’s Club shoppers.
Great rewards in popular purchase categories. Your Sam’s Mastercard will earn you 5% cash back on the first $6,000 that you spend on gas each year, plus 3% on all dining purchases, and 1% on everything else. So this Sam’s Club credit card is best when used only for those bonus categories. After all, 1% is just the market average for a cash back card.
No annual fee & no financing appeal. Neither Sam’s Club credit card charges an annual fee, which saves you $22.29 per year relative to the average credit card. But those savings will quickly go down the drain if you carry a balance from month to month, as the Sam’s Club credit cards have regular APRs that are assigned depending on your creditworthiness. For context, the average credit card for people with good credit charges 24.12%. Neither Sam’s Club card has a reduced introductory interest rate.

I lost my card, so I called to get a new one, which seemed pretty simple. I got an email saying my card had shipped, but I never received it. I called again; they sent out a new card, but I never received it. This happened repeatedly. When I called again, I was told to check with my post office. I asked if she could repeat my mailing address, and she said, "Well, it's your address!" I finally just closed the account. 4 cards supposedly sent out. Where are they?

Sam's Club charges interest on purchases before the statement is issued. My statement balance was $5,300. I paid $4,000 on my bill. Interest should have been charged on $1,300; however, they charged interest on the items I purchased in the current month. I don't understand how they can justify charging interest before I've even received the new statement. I closed my account for this reason. An interest rate of 29% is excessively high, and calculating that as a daily balance is ridiculous.

They constantly harass me; even with autopay, they are constantly calling for a payment, even after I make a payment. Then, they call a few days later.

Had the card for 5 months. Twice, after waiting in line at Sam's Club for gasoline, I inserted the physical card into the pump and it was declined, even in my home state. No fraud texts immediately came to confirm, no calls, I just had to leave the pump. After the second time, I canceled the card because the customer service at Synchrony is really poor. They claimed their "fraud algorithm" was tripped, but for what reason? It's a shame that Sam's Club chooses to partner with such a poor card provider like Synchrony. It actually reflects poorly on Sam's, and I am likely going to cancel my Sam's membership as a result.

Worst card ever, stay away. While every other bank is offering me cards, and Capital One is doubling my limits, Synchrony decides to balance chase all my cards and blames my credit history. How? I paid off a loan, I paid down my other cards, and my credit score went up 70 points, only for them to drop it by balance chasing my card. It's horrible; this card will wreck your credit history.

Here it is, five days before Christmas, and this bank, which has no moral values and no interest in treating their customers with any respect at all, decides to withdraw over $12,000 from my bank account due to a double charge—to be precise, it was $6,058 and change, multiplied by two. I recently got off the phone with them, and all they could do was apologize. They told me the soonest I could get my money back would be in 15 days, which ruins my Christmas and New Year's. You would think they'd have a little bit of sympathy and try to make it right, but no, all they could say was, "We're sorry, there's nothing we can do." It's astonishing to me, not just with this bank—it's all these banks—when they want their money, it's instantaneous; they take their money. But then, when they make a mistake and you ask for your money back, they tell you that you're going to have to wait 15 days to get that money. We all know what they're doing. They hold that money in an interest-bearing account. Think about it: how many millions of customers do they have that they do this to? That's free money for them. They won't bat an eye to do it. Here it is, January 6, and I still do not have my money back. They’ve told me it will be 7 to 15 business days before I will receive my money back via a check. I believe I’m going to file a complaint with the banking authority about the way they do business.

Would never recommend Sam's Club credit card. I was disappointed that they lowered my credit limit without contacting me. My payment history and credit ratio are good. It's the worst credit card I've ever had. I cancelled card immediately.

Access to view card statements is not very user friendly. It seems like every other week there is a fraud alert on my card. It has gotten so annoying calling them to clear the purchase and having to keep getting denied. Not worth the hassle, going back to my Costco Visa card. Then when I pay the take the money out of my account and it takes weeks for them to credit my credit card account after it has already left my bank. I would recommend staying away from this card company.
