The Uber Credit Card is best for people with good credit or better who regularly use Uber, Uber Eats, and the JUMP bike and scooter service. Uber users who wine, dine, order in, fly, or stay at hotels will also benefit from this card’s rewards.
Uber, Uber Eats, and JUMP purchases get 5% back in Uber Cash per $1 spent on the Uber Credit Card. Restaurant, bar, airfare, and hotel purchases get you 3% back in Uber Cash, and all other purchases give 1% back. The initial Uber Credit Card bonus of
$100 after spending $500 in the first 3 months is a cherry on top. The
$0 annual fee is nice, too.
One potential drawback is that all rewards come in the form of Uber Cash. That means you can only redeem for credit towards Uber rides, Uber Eats, or rides with JUMP bikes and scooters. And that makes the Uber Credit Card
only beneficial to people who use these services. If that’s you, this might be a perfect credit card for you.
To help you decide whether or not to apply for the Uber Credit Card, we’ve outlined the card’s highs and lows below.
Uber Credit Card Review Highlights:- The best credit card for Uber customers. If you use Uber, Uber Eats, or JUMP bikes and scooters as part of your daily or weekly routine, the Uber Credit Card is a no-brainer. At 5% back, it’s hard to find a higher consistent rewards rate for Uber.
- Good dining rewards, and uncommonly good bar rewards. Credit card rewards for dining purchases are fairly common, but rewards for bar tabs are far less common. If you frequently go out for adult beverages at bars, why not earn 3% back on each drink to go toward your Uber ride home?
- Below-average initial bonus. The average initial bonus for credit cards these days is $200, and the Uber Credit Card falls short at $100 in Uber Cash. That said, the $500 spending requirement for the bonus is lower than with many other credit cards.
- No minimum redemption amount, but one big limitation. Rewards are in the form of Uber Cash, and you can transfer earnings to your Uber account starting at 1 cent. When you reach $50 in Uber Cash, the transfer to your Uber account will happen automatically. However, you can only redeem Uber Credit Card rewards for credits toward Uber, Uber Eats, and JUMP services. It’s safe to say that if you don’t use Uber-related services, you won’t get any value out of this card’s rewards structure.
- No annual fee. There are lots of rewards credit cards out there with no annual fee, so this isn’t unique. But compared to the average credit card, you’re saving roughly $20 annually with the Uber Credit Card.
- Cellphone insurance and other travel-related benefits. At a time when credit card companies are slashing card benefits left and right, Uber Credit Card cellphone insurance, rental car insurance, trip cancellation & interruption insurance, travel accident insurance, and baggage delay insurance are all notable. The cellphone insurance covers up to $600 per claim or $1,000 per year, as long as you charge your phone bill to the Uber Credit Card.
- No foreign transaction fees. When using a credit card abroad or even online at a foreign retailer, some credit cards add 2%-3% to every transaction. Those foreign transaction fees can chip away at any gains you’ve made with credit card rewards. The Uber Credit Card foreign transaction fee is 0%, making it a decent choice to take on a vacation overseas.
- High interest rates. Many rewards credit cards offer introductory 0% APR periods on purchases, balance transfers, or both. The Uber Credit Card is not one of them. The Uber Credit Card’s APR ranges from 15.74% to 26.49% (V), so it’s not a good idea to carry a balance from month to month.
- Good credit required. For good odds of satisfying the Uber Credit Card’s credit score requirement, we recommend a score of 700 or higher. You can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub to see where you stand.
