In compiling the list of the best cash back credit cards (some of which originate from CardHub advertising partners), our editors tried to find products that met as many, if not all of the following criteria: 1% cash back on all purchases, higher earning rates for certain purchase categories and an initial cash back bonus.

EXPERT’S ANSWERS

Why get the best cash back credit card and not the best travel rewards credit card?

By: Odysseas PapadimitriouIn a word, flexibility. Though certain travel rewards credit cards might be more lucrative, the best cash back rewards credit cards simplify redemption and broaden rather than limit the possible uses of your earnings. In addition, cash back credit cards represent a lower risk because credit card companies cannot devalue what you have already earned, as they can with rewards miles or points. Whether you don't travel enough to warrant getting a travel rewards credit card or you merely value the simplicity of cash rewards, you can't go wrong with the best cash back card.

How often do the best cash back credit cards change?

By: John KiernanThe best cash back credit cards page changes whenever new deals that warrant inclusion are introduced. There is no specific timetable for this as credit card companies alter offers at their own discretion based on various economic trends. As a result, the best cash back credit cards for 2011 will likely differ from those for 2010.

Do the best cash back credit cards make rewards redemption easier?

By: Sonia GarrisonRewards redemption is very simple with all cash back credit cards. You earn rewards in terms of cash, which you receive in the form of checks or statement credits. There are no blackout dates, no risk of devaluation, no loopholes, no point benchmarks to reach, just a clear cash earning rate. The best cash back cards simply heighten the benefits provided by your typical cash back credit card.

I have the bank of america cash back credit card and it is the best credit card I have. First of all every time I use my card at the gas station I get three percent cash back. When I use my Credit card at the Groceries store I get two percent cash back and on any other purchase I get one percent cash back. Just last month I got over 300.00 in cash back. I love how every time I use my card I get something in return and on top of all this I get a ten percent bonus if I put my Cash back in my bank more

I have the Best Buy Mastercard. It has cash rewards of 5% (for Best Buy purchases) and 1-2% on all other purchases. It isn't a lot, but for a small limit to build credit, it's fantastic! The APR isn't too crazy, especially compared to a lot of options available for less than great credit. When applying, I was just looking for in-store credit, and I qualified for this, which was a pleasant surprise. It's the first time I've ever qualified for actual credit anywhere that wasn't secured. I have never had all too great credit but I have tried the last couple years to improve my score and credit history. more

The BankAmericard Cash Rewards for Students Credit Card has served my needs pretty well. I got it when I had little to no credit, and it has offered pretty good cash back rewards ever since. It offers 1% on all purchases, with certain purchases offering higher percentages. You can also enroll in a rewards program that allows for up to 10-15% cash back when you shop at certain locations. There is no annual fee. One drawback may be that the limit tends to be on the lower side, since it is for people with limited credit. I have since gotten other cards with better limits, but still like this card more

Discover card is a great cash back credit card. If you use your card wisely and pay the balance in full each month, it costs you nothing to use while you earn cashback rewards of up to and greater than 1% of your spending. There are special limited time offers of increased cashback in specific categories. There are several alternative ways to redeem your cashback rewards. I have been using this card for 27 years and have been very happy with it.

I've been using Chase Freedom ever since they same onto the market in my area. The Chase Freedom card is a great cash back reward card because you have so many choices on how to use points given to you by purchases you make. You can redeem it back for cash, use the credit on amazon.com, or use them for travel expenses in various ways. Why have a card which only gives you one choice? With the Chase Freedom card, you have freedom to spend the cash back however you like and that's why I love this card.

The Blue Cash Preferred Card by American Express offer 6% cash back on supermarket shopping, 3% cash back at department stores and gas stations and 1% cash back at other places. Even though the annual fee is high the cash back incentive covers that and much more. They also offer a $150 bonus after spending $1000 within 3 months time. The APR stands at 12.99%-21.99% depending on your credit. All in all this is a great card to have it makes things a lot easier for me than having to have to worry about my money.

I've found that my favorite credit card is the Chase Freedom card. My credit in my early adulthood was not the best and this was not an issue for me with this card. It's given me a chance to rebuild my credit ratings. No annual fee, cash back, straightforward.

There is no better cash back card than the Discover IT card. Discover is wonderful with regards to customer service, and when it comes to cash back, they really take care of you. Every quarter, a new category of purchases is chosen for 5% cash back on all charges in that category. Discover sticks with common purchase categories to keep everyone happy - one quarter it's gasoline, then it could be restaurants, movies and entertainment, etc. By timing purchases correctly it's easy to make a few hundred dollars cash back in a year with this card!

My favorite cash back card is the Discover Card. They always rotate through the segments that pay extra dividends. During those months you can really rake up the dividends on such things as food, gas, hotels, dining out etc. I have never had any issues cashing out or spending the dividends on premiere partners for an even larger benefit.

Chase Freedom is my favorite cash back card, offering 1% on all purchases and 5% in rotating categories. I like it much better than the Discover It card, since many places do not take Discover. Its especially great when the rotating category is gas, as I have a long commute to work and 5% cash back on gas is a lot of free money. You also do not need fantastic credit to get it, as I have average credit and was still accepted.

The best cash back card is the PNC rewards platinum card. I've used this card for the past two years and I love it. They have a rewards website where you can browse a variety of different cards and points rack up fast! You receive four points for every $1.00 you spend. One thing I like about this card is you can set up automatic check payments, so payments for rent and other things like that are helping me rack up my points. It has always been very easy to use and I've received great customer service with this card.

The Discover It card is the best cash back card. It offers 5% cash back in rotating categories every quarter, but most importantly, these are categories that everyone uses.. gas, groceries, restaurants. And when redeeming cash back for gift cards, the redemption values are even better. For example, a $25 gift card could be had for only $20 in cash back. Also, during major holidays, like Valentine's and Christmas, Discover always has special additional cash back promotions online on top of the already generous Shop Discover. For example, during Christmas when buying from a merchant online through Shop Discover, Discover usually gives 5% cash back on top of the everyday more

I've had the American Express TrueEarnings card for a year now and it's the best credit card I've ever had. I'm sure I'll stick with it for the long run. There's no annual fee with Costco membership (and up to two cards per one membership), and was very easy for me to qualify for with a short credit history and low income. I get 3% back at gas stations, 2% back on restaurants and travel, and 1% back on everything else. Since there's no quarterly categories and the best rewards are on what I'm buying anyway, I never feel obligated to buy something just for the allure of the cash more

My choice of cash back credit card is the Discover It card. It offers 1 percent cash back on all purchases, with an outstanding 5 percent cash back on purchases in quarterly rotating categories, such as gas, online retailers, entertainment venues, and department stores. If that wasn’t enough, the card features no annual fee. Discover It also offers no penalty APR and forgives the first late payment, and notifies customers monthly of their FICO credit scores.

The Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card is the best because it has no annual fees, which means as long as you pay your balance on time, you will receive all of the benefits of the rewards program without any of the hassles. Essentially it's free money for banking with Capital One. On a personal note, I've had largely positive experiences with Capital One. The main downside is to get this card, you require good or excellent credit.

The Discover It card is my favorite. You don't need to have much of a credit history. The credit line starts out modestly if you don't have much of a credit history, but rises pretty quickly every year. There aren't any annual fees, either. My favorite is the cash back bonus, though. I can get 1% off pretty much everything, and 1/2 the year I can get 5% back on gas. Shopping on sites through their website, can get up to 20% back. It's surprising how quickly it adds up.

The best card, for anyone who likes to travel, is the Barclaycard Arrival. While the cashback on every day purchases is a meager 1%, equal to the most average of cards, the cashback rate on travel redemptions is a massive 2.2%. Should you use your points to erase any travel purchase on your bill, including agents such as Expedia and Travelocity, you get 2% and you will receive 10% of your used points back as a bonus, bring the total to 2.2% cashback on all purchases. If you travel often, this card is a must-- and the $440 sign up bonus currently going on makes this a non brainer. There more

The best credit card for me is Chase Freedom. I have been using it for the past 2 years with no problems at all! I love getting 5% cash back on select categories every quarter; especially when it's the restaurant and gas quarter. The constant 1% is also welcome. I use my cashback just to credit my balance each time and it works out great. Who can say no to free money? I am not concerned about the APR since I pay my balance off each month.

I think the best card in the list is Chase Freedom due largely to the $100 reward after spending $500 in the first three months. Getting 20% back on $500 is nice. Also, the 5% cash back categories seem to be solid and useful. While some cards have a flat 2% back on all things, I'd rather have 5% back on things I use regularly. The aggregate cash back will most likely be more than the 2% flat rate.

The best card for me would have to be Chase Freedom card, because you can get cash back!!! It helps people like me that like something free back when they buy something. The Chase Freedom card offers $100 when you spend $500 in 3 months, you can get 5% cash back when you spend $1500 on certain items, earn 1% on anything else you buy during the quarter, earn 10% for having a checking account, no annual fees, and they added a 5% cash back for every 3 months on things you buy and need anyway like at gas stations, restaurants, and my favorite company Amazon.com. There really shouldn't be any debate as to what the best cash back credit card is-- the Fidelity Investments American Express card gives you a a flat 2% cash back on every purchase. The only catch with this card is that the cash back bonus is deposited directly into your Fidelity account... which isn't a problem as the Fidelity account requires no minimum balance and there is no requirement that you leave the money in that account for any length of time. You can simply use your card as normal, collect your 2% cash back on all purchases, and move the money from your Fidelity account to your account of more

I have a Citi Dividend Card. It offers 1% cash on all purchases made throughout the year. In addition, it offers 5% cash back every quarter on different purchases. For example, this quarter is spring themed, purchases at home improvement stores, gardening stores, etc are the focus. I feel like the quarterly bonuses are relevant to customers. I also like looking forward to something new each quarter. I also like that there are no annual or hidden fees with this card. I have the Bank of America Cash Rewards credit card. I've had it for about a year now. When I applied for the credit card I was told I'd receive 3% back for gas, 2% for groceries! and 1% for other items purchased. I was excited to hear those great perks I would get for using my credit card. Since I use my credit card for mainly those items, it's amazing to get money back while spending money! I love the Southwest Rapid Rewards card. I cashed in on the initial reward amount (although I think the terms for that were different when I got the card 2 years ago), and I got enough points for around 3 roundtrip flights (they were semi-nearby). In the time I've had this card, I've earned 3 more roundtrip flights, and a number of reward coupons in the mail (more snacks, more drinks, discounts). The interest rate isn't a problem, because I pay in full at the end of each month (most of the time). Overall, a great card if you love traveling or if you'd be traveling anyway.

I have been using the chase freedom card for over 3 years now and love it. There are great offers from chase to apply for the card , like 100 USD cash back if we spend 500 in 3 months or 200 USD cash back if we spend 1000 in 3 months. So that helps kick start the earning on your spending. Plus the 5% bonus categories are well thought through ( gas stations , theme parks in summer , online shopping during thanksgiving etc ). I highly recommend this card given the benefits. Plus there are various other offers like 0 percent APR for the first 12 or 15 more

I love the Chase Freedom Card. You get a 5% cash back reward on purchases of $1,500 or more, so this is a great card to use if you’re planning on making a major buy - like a computer or a flat screen TV - in the relatively near future. Depending on how much you use the card, you might just get enough in rewards to take care of most, if not all of the costs. This is rated as one of the best cash back cards you can get, so I highly recommend. In addition, if you’ve got a couple of recent dings on your credit report that are more

I have been a long time Chase customer and their Chase Freedom card does not disappoint. It is currently the only card I use and I highly recommend it. The initial bonus of $100 after spending $500 in the first 3 months sealed the deal for me. If you plan to make big purchases soon, get this card! That’s just one of the many rewards that make using this card great.

The Capital One Quicksilver CC has been my go-to credit card for the past year or so that I've had it in my possession. It's my favorite card to use when I'm not spending money on gas or groceries, as its CB rate is much higher than the measly 1% I get from my other CC's. It's also super easy to redeem my accumulated CB! I'm free to do it at anytime I want, which is awesome when compared to other banks who make you wait until you've attained X amount of CB before you can redeem.

I would say the best in this group is the chase freedom in my own opinion, it gives a 5% cash back on purchases for a time frame on select purchases like gas, starbucks and other restaurants and some other stores. It also gives an initial $200 dollar bonus cash back. This $200 and the fact that there is no annual fee makes this a prime choice for me.

The Chase Freedom card is by far the best credit card out there. The 5% cash back categories rotate every 3 months making it a bit tedious to chase around but the low interest rate of 2.5% really makes up for it. I use it to pay our kids college tuition so the standard 1% really adds up. They give you the option of paying yourself back or getting gift cards. I chose the gift card option for one year and had enough to purchase a new washer !!!!! Things like this are such a huge bonus ! They are also top notch in fraud alerts ... I get updates more

I have the Capital One Quicksilver 1.5% cash back card and I love it. I much prefer this card over other cards that offer greater than 1% cash back because the Quicksilver card is a VISA card that is almost accepted everywhere. Although an extra 0.5% may not seem like much, it can be very useful when making large purchases or payments that don't fit into traditional categories. As an example, I used this card to pay for my child's college tuition and was able to get a large amount of cash back.

A card I didn't see here was the Discover it card. The it card is very easy to apply for, even with not so great credit. Instead of being stuck in certain categories for the first entry period (eg, 3% back on gas) you get 1 % on all purchases and then you can get 5% back on categories that rotate every 3 months. The best part is it isn't one category per month to earn the bonus, there a three or four per month. If you regularly use a credit card to make purchases these points add up rather quickly. Since applying I barely use any of my other more

Chase Freedom is indeed the best card, that's why it has one of the highest. The initial bonus you get from signing up is $100 after making $500 in purchases of course, but it is easily done if you buy a laptop. For me I was a college student getting my first credit card, this option was definitely the best one. It has one of the lowest interest rates. Everything you purchase you get at least 1% back up to a total of 5%, depending on the category of products you are purchasing such as gas, restaurants, as well as Amazon.com. This is the best card in its category and more

Chase Freedom is the best cash back credit card I have ever had. The basic cash back is 1% which is less than the cash back of other cards such as Capital One Quicksilver. However, Chase Freedom provides an additional 5% cash back on selected items. The categories of these items change quarterly. The most important items are gas-station payments, restaurants and Amazon purchases.
Chase Freedom also provides a one-time cash back after a specific time of issuing the card. The amount of this one-time cash back changes from time to time, but it is at least 100 dollars.
To conclude, Chase Freedom is the best in its category as it provides more

I would highly recommend the Capital One Quick Silver for those who have a qualifying credit score (I know, it can be tough to get accepted). My experience with other cards with higher max earning amount is that they typically require you to meet some outlandish spending qualifications to reach the high reward rates (3, 4, or even 5%). Though these high cash back rates ARE nice, I prefer that the Quicksilver is locked in at a good (albeit not incredible) 1.5%, and you won't be forced to complete special offers or god knows what to increase your rate. So if you want to know what you're getting and have more

American Express Blue is hands down one of the best Credit Cards out there. First of all, they are 100% annual fee free. You will not pay any expenses associated with this card, unless it has to do with interest or ATM withdrawals. Customer Service is great. They are open 24/7. They are quick to respond and take action. One time, I had rented a car using the American Express Blue. The car rental company charged me $200 extra for scratching the bumper of the car. Without a doubt, the best credit card I've ever used for cash back rewards is the Citi Forward (Visa). On the surface it may not seem too remarkable: 1 point for every $1 you spend. However, Visa offers a number of extra rewards points when buying in certain categories (dining, book stores) and paying your bill online every month. Those thankyou rewards points can then be used to purchase a wide variety of giftcards. In my 4 years of using my Visa, I've gotten hundreds and hundreds of dollars in giftcards just for using my credit card! It really is that easy!
