This is the same advice I’d give to anyone considering an airline-specific credit card because people who do not fly only with the airline affiliated with their card won’t see as much benefit as often, nor will they be able to mitigate the threat of rewards devaluation. So, let’s talk options to the AeroMexico Rewards Credit Card. If you want travel rewards, I’d go with either the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which gives you $625 in airfare/hotel nights as an initial bonus, or the Capital One Venture Card, which basically offers 2% cash back across all purchases. If you don’t travel all that often, I’d go for cash back rewards, either via the Capital One Cash Rewards Card (1.5% across all purchases) or the Blue Cash Everyday from American Express (3% at supermarkets, 2% at gas stations and department stores, and 1% on everything else). If you want low rates, there’s both a Chase Slate Card and a Discover More Card offering 0% on purchases and transfers for 15 months along with no balance transfer fee. Any of these cards would be better than the Aero Mexico Credit Card for the average consumer.
