Shortly after the new iPhone dropped, I reviewed the AT&T Universal Savings Platinum Credit Card, and it just occurred to me that I should take a look at what its business cousin, the AT&T Universal Business Credit Card, has to offer. The AT&T Universal Business Card is for small business owners who have good or excellent personal credit scores (very important to realize). It’s a Citicard on the Visa network and doesn’t have an annual fee, but you’re obviously going to be most interested in the rewards it does have. This card offers 5 Citi ThankYou points for each dollar you charge on AT&T-related purchases, 3 points for purchases made through certain office suppliers, gas stations and professional services companies, and 1 point on everything else. You might be wondering what “certain” means, and according to the card’s rewards program details, “Office supply merchants are defined as stand-alone merchants that primarily sell stationery and office supplies for business consumption. Gas stations are defined as stand-alone merchants that primarily sell vehicle fuel for consumer use. Professional services are defined as standalone tax preparation, accounting, bookkeeping, and legal services providers that provide their respective services to businesses.” Apparently warehouse clubs, discount stores and convenience stores don’t count. The above might all seem like a lot to keep track of and for that exact reason, I’d stay away from the AT&T Universal Business Credit Card. I’m not a small business owner, but I know a few people who are and they have more than enough to worry about without fussing over what types of purchases qualify for X or Y amount of rewards. If I had to choose, I’d probably go with the Capital One cash business credit card over the AT&T business credit card cause it gives you 2% on all purchases, making it a whole lot simpler.
