The
Chase Slate Edge℠ card is a pretty good credit card for people with a
700+ credit score who want 0% introductory APRs as well as a regular APR that can get cheaper with good behavior over time. Plus,
Slate Edge is easily worthwhile, given its
$0 annual fee. On the other hand,
Slate Edge is not the best choice for people who want to earn rewards. The card does not offer any rewards on purchases.
Below, you can find more information that should help put this offer into context and make it easier to decide whether or not to apply for
Slate Edge.
Chase Slate Edge Review Highlights
0% Intro APR for New Purchases
Chase Slate Edge offers
0% for 18 months on new purchases. That is longer than average for a 0% APR credit card offer right now (
11 months).
0% Intro APR for Balance Transfers
Chase Slate Edge also gives
0% for 18 months on balance transfers. That is several months longer than average for a balance transfer credit card offer (
13 months). You also have to deal with a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3%, whichever is greater (for balance transfers made in the first 60 days, $5 or 5% after that).
$0 Annual Fee
Most low interest credit cards have no annual fee, but this feature still makes Chase Slate Edge about
$22.29 per year cheaper than the average credit card offer.
No Rewards
Chase Slate Edge does not reward cardholders for each purchase they make. This is not uncommon for 0% APR credit cards. It shouldn’t be a big deal, either, as long as you also have a rewards card to use for everyday purchases that you can afford to pay off by the due date each month.
3% Foreign Transaction Fee
Low interest credit cards without ongoing rewards usually aren’t the best choice for international spending, and the Chase Slate Edge card’s foreign fee provides further evidence of its unsuitability for that task:
3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars. It’s best to use a
credit card with no foreign fee instead.
20.49% - 29.24% (V) APR
The
Slate Edge APR can be anywhere from
20.49% to 29.24% (V), depending on your credit score, income, existing debt and other factors. Even though the regular APR starts out fairly high, paying on time and spending at least $1,000 by each account anniversary will get you a 2% reduction each year. Currently, the average interest rate among new credit card offers is
22.89%.
