Best Business Credit Cards

Selected by CardHub Editors from 1,000+ credit cards — Updated August 2, 2015

Business credit cards allow us to effectively track company expenses as well as give cards with customizable limits to employees, thus earning rewards on their spending.

However, business credit cards are not covered by the CARD Act, which means they don’t benefit from protections like those outlawing universal default, unfair payment allocation and, most importantly, arbitrary interest rate increases. Nearly all major credit card companies retain the right to jack up the cost of your debt at will – especially troublesome considering most issuers report account information to users’ personal credit reports and hold them personally liable for debt.

That’s why our editors compared both business and general-consumer cards – 1,000+ offers in total – in making their selections for 2015’s Best Business Credit Cards. These offers (some of which come from CardHub sponsors) excel in the various categories most important to small business owners – approvability, lucrative rewards, 0% rates and/or CARD Act Protection.

Not only can you score $750 towards travel expenses just for using the card for a few months, but some of your biggest regular expenses will also be effectively subsidized. Bank of America has long stood head and shoulders above the rest of the industry when it comes to small business card protections. Each of the five years that CardHub has done its annual Small Business Credit Card Study – which evaluates whether or not banks relay small business debt to owners' personal credit reports, which CARD Act protections they've granted small business cardholders, and how transparent they are about their policies – Bank of America has received a perfect score of 100%, while the closest competitor registered a 60%. As such, if you want to use your business credit card for both funding and rewards earning, it had better be a Bank of America card. And the Cash Rewards for Business is the best choice at the moment.

Harley-Davidson® Secured Credit Card

Secured Card

  • Min Deposit $300
  • Annual Fee None
  • Monthly Fee None
  • One-Time Fees None
  • Regular APR 22.99% (V)

Best Fully Secured Card. Don’t let the branding fool you, the Harley Davidson Secured Credit Card is one of the best secured cards on the market given that it doesn’t charge an annual fee. Secured cards are most commonly used by people who have damaged or little credit, and the most important thing to look for in either situation is a card with low fixed costs for which you can qualify. Low interest rates and rewards are of lesser concern because secured cards don’t tend to offer them. The fact that the Harley Card does offer some rewards therefore makes it that much more attractive.

Expert Answers

What's the best way to use a business credit card?

By: Odysseas Papadimitriou, CardHub CEO

A business credit card can obviously be used both as a transaction vehicle (i.e. to make purchases, track spending, etc.) and to fund a small business. However, thanks to a credit card law that became effective in February 2010, a personal credit card is actually the best credit card for small business spending that will lead to an end-of-month balance. In addition to supplementing the consumer credit card bill of rights, this law made it illegal for credit card companies to apply increased interest rates to existing balances held on personal credit cards unless you are at least 60 days delinquent. This makes business credit cards, which were excluded from the law.s protections, riskier to use for this purpose since the interest rate can change at any point in time. As a result, we recommend that the best business credit cards within this section should only be used for purchases that will be paid for in full by the end of the month.

Do business credit cards with no personal liability exist?

By: Odysseas Papadimitriou, CardHub CEO

No. A small business credit card with no personal guarantee is merely a myth. Unless your company is large, a credit card company will hold both you and your business liable for credit card misuse no matter what kind of card you're using. Therefore, even the best small business credit card will not protect you personally, and you will be required to provide your Social Security Number (SSN) when applying for any of the products listed on this page.

Does my business' credit standing matter?

By: Odysseas Papadimitriou, CardHub CEO

It does, but your personal credit standing usually matters even more. Since you are personally responsible for the use of a business credit card, banks typically focus on your credit history, which is usually longer than that of your business, to assess your risk. Therefore, while many new business owners believe they must get business credit cards for new businesses, you should actually focus your search on getting the best business credit card possible based on your personal credit score.

I have credit cards from most of the top banks for their promotions. My favorite one out of all the cashback ones it the Chase freedom card. What makes the Chase freedom card stands out from the rest that I have is that the cashback can be redeemed as a check, balance credit or for a discounted card. Most of the major cards offer discounts on gift cards but with the rest of online giftcard resellers like ABC giftcards, giftcards.com, Ebay, etc, I could simply buy discounted gift cards from them using the 100% redemption I get from my cashback.

I'm a big fan of the Staples Business Credit Card. It's got great interest, itemized billing, amazing rewards which save you a lot of money on supplies over time, and a great intro apr. It's perfect for a small business. Not to mention the amazing customer service and transparency of the terms. No bait and switch or tricks here.

Ink by Chase is the best business card I've used. It allows you to easily track your spending by category. You can also set spending limits if you have other users with cards on your account. On top of that, you can take advantage of some great rewards and there's no charge for foreign transactions, unlike some cards. This is a very versatile card that will help you save money and improve your business operations. The APR is also very low. I feel the card is the best card for business owners.

I didn't have the best credit when I first searched for a Business Credit Card as I'm sure is the case with a lot of people. Because of that I went with the Capital One Spark card for Business and it was a great decision. The lack of an annual fee was a plus and so was the percentage you get on cash back. I really didn't expect to get anything like that so the fact that I did was a huge bonus. This card is recommended highly for people in a intro type of business situation.

The best Business Credit Card that I know about would have the be the American Express Business Card. This card has many benefits that would be extremely beneficial to the card holder. The American Express card, for starters has several rewards that a business owner would love. One of those rewards is the gas rebate, which helps the business owner to earn gas based on the amount they spend. In addition, the card provides the business owner with NO FEES, this alone is one of the reasons why I say this card is the best. There are other features, such as cash rebates that the business owner will enjoy as more

My favorite card in the business category is the Ink Plus® Business Credit Card because it has excellent reward system, and a high maximum credit limit. This is perfect for my small event planning business. They also provide a very low interest rate, which is fair, for the usage I do. I did quite a bit of research to decide on this card, as I wanted something that would be perfect for my usage!

I highly recommend this card to other small business owners.

Having bad credit makes getting a decent business credit card a problem, or it can. That's why finding the Harley-Davidson® Secured Credit Card was so amazing. No one time fees, no fees annually and no monthly fees, make this the best secured card I have ever had for my business usage. The interest rates on my purchases are reasonable, plus it only required a $300 opening deposit to start using it. I think I am in love with the Harley-Davidson® Secured Credit Card, this will surely be a long term business relationship. There are few credit cards that have given me so much convenience with so little hassle. I never more

I enjoy the American Express Small Business Open card because it has NO fees, 5% cash rebates, and my personal favorite, the 3% rebate on gas. Furthermore, partner rebates for doing business for hotels and utilizing airline can be beneficial to the travelers which my family are. I love this card and it is great for personal checking and it business expenses.

I've been in business for about four years now and this card has held my expenses and fees to an all time low. It is the perfect companion to assist me with acquiring the materials I need to be successful in my business. My peers also use this card more

I currently have the Visa by Citibank and I am not very please with their customer service or their card. Too many fees and just not very customer friendly in my honest opinion, they do not seem to understand a small business and treat everyone like a huge conglomerate. The Slate card by Chase by far seem to be the best choice for a small business. The intro APR rate has the best 0% term and the Annual fee being 0 is a big plus. This alone is a huge savings especially for the small business owner such as myself. I do think that the only drawback would be the cash-back more

I think that the best business card is the Slate card by Chase. I love this card because they offer 0% APR interest on purchases for 15 months and they also offer 0% APR interest on balance transfer to the card for 15 months. This is extremely useful if you are trying to finance or pay off debt to a credit card because you can pay it off at your leisure without having to worry about paying interest. I got the Slate card because I was carrying a large balance on another credit card that was charging me interest. I was able to transfer the balance to the Slate card more

For a small business owner, having a zero percent APR and no annual fee is a great opportunity. Getting a business loan in this period following the Great Recession is not easy, and making a profit in the current climate of lack and financial conservation are formidable challenges. The Chase Slate card helps with these challenges by affording the option to charge necessary items, even inventory stock, for a year and a half and sell them for a profit without paying interest. This option seems much more secure and viable than putting up collateral for a business loan.

I like the American Express Small Business Open card: It has NO fees, 5% cash reabtes on cell phone service and office products and 3% rebates on gas. 1% rebates on everything else. Also they have a variety of partner rebates (also in cash) for things like hotels and airline fares (specific aitlines and hotels only.) There are many other perks too that I cannot recall since I do not do very much business stuff. However, I say check it out if you need a small business card.

Honestly, as a person with a damaged credit score, the Harley-Davidson Secured Credit Card was a godsend. It helped me get back on my feet—no setup fees, no annual fees, no nothing. The APR is on the high end at 22.99% but for people with bad credit, you’re much more careful to run up your card more than you can pay so it doesn’t matter much. The fact that it’s a secured card and still offers rewards (granted for Harley dollars) makes it a solid card to have.

I have been a Chase loyal customer for ages now and their Ink Plus Business Card doesn't disappoint. I got it two years ago and it has helped me grow my business considerably. I would highly recommend the Capital One Sparks card to any small business owner. They are very lenient and make a good first card for a person who has just started their own business. They were the only ones to give me a shot when I started my business. I have had to use their customer service line on several occasions over the years and I have always received excellent, courteous service from them.

I greatly recommend the Citi Diamond Preferred Card. Citi is a reputable business with years of experience. Their offer for 0% APR for 18 months is excellent for anyone just starting out. They really want their customers to have the opportunity a business needs to get on their feet. Their transfer fee is negligible, but it shouldn't impact your decision because it's not always applicable. This card is the safest choice above all the others, I highly recommend the Citi Diamond Preferred Card, you won't regret it!

I am in LOVE with my Capital One Spark card. I am able to keep all of my business transactions in one place. I was turned down by numerous other credit cards when I first opened my business and I was pleasantly surprised when I was accepted by this one. I have only had to call customer service once when there was a duplicate charge on my account but my issue was quickly resolved when the rep explained that it was only a pending charge. I highly recommend this card for someone just starting their business who needs a little bit of an advantage to purchase inventory. It also helps more

Amex Gold is a good first card. You'll need to guarantee it personally if you don't have established business credit but it's hard to get around that with any company. I use the Platinum and Plum Cards now which both have their benefits.
Amex charges a yearly fee (I think $150 for Gold, usually first year free) but they are very flexible with limits and will help you grow.
When I first started my business I had little to no credit but I was able to use my Amex to pay my vendors and charge up 25-40k+ a month. Most of my customers were on 30 day terms so having access to more

The Capital One Spark Cash Business Card has given me nothing but satisfaction since I got one to use for my business. There is no doubt the $250 bonus is nice, and the base/maximum earnings are set higher than some and not based on fluctuating "points" like others. The annual fee is not as high as many business cards, particularly since you get the first year free, and the regular APR is low and very manageable. With no transfer or purchase intro APR fees, it's convenient to use the card in any situation. Very highly recommended!

I recently got the Citi Diamond preferred card and it my new favorite credit card for my business transactions. Although the card doesn't earn any rewards or bonuses the introductory rate of 0% for the first 18 months is just to good to pass up. All purchases and transfers made in the first 18 months will have a 0% APR, This is particularly useful for someone such as my self that has a business in which they purchase materials for projects often. The absorbent rates i was being charged on these purchases was really eating into my profits, this card eliminates these fees which means more profit for my business more

Chase Ink Plus is one of the best credit cards for small businesses and entrepreneurs, in my book. If you can, sign up right before you make a large purchase, because if you spend $5,000 or more in the first three months, you automatically get 50,000 points, which can definitely add up. I also like the low APR of around 15%, as many comparable cards are as high as 20% or more. Also, if you do business abroad, there are no foreign transaction fees, another perk. The only potential is that you need pretty good credit to sign up. If you've got that and you're responsible with your monthly payments, more

I think that the best card for business usages is the Capital One Spark Cash for Business. This card is great when it comes to getting the most cash back which is great for small business card owners, who are looking to gain rewards faster and use their awards for business use. That can help save money in the long run. This card is also lower in interest when it comes to making payments and the annual fee is waived the first year which is great for someone who is looking to open a business or if unexpected purchases are needed.

The best credit card I am aware of and have used was the Chase Ink Plus. I used this card when making purchases from a small business, and we used it enough that the company earned pretty good rewards. There was a $200 signup bonus, great rewards on office supplies, no annual fees, and a zero-interest period. It was comfortable, secure, and the owner of the business I worked with always wanted every purchase, no matter how small on the card because he loved the points and cash back.

My absolutely favorite credit card is my Amex Blue Cash Preferred card.
I know a lot of people are hesitant to get/use a card that has an annual fee (this one has a $75 annual fee), but truthfully the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card is so beneficial for those of us whose expenses are more about the normal grocery and gas expenses as opposed to strictly travel expenses. It has one of the best rewards rates at 6% cash back on groceries, up to $6,000 spent per year. And unlimited 3% rewards on gas and department stores. I earn back my $75 annual fee pretty quickly. The best business credit card is without a doubt the Citi Diamond Preferred Card. Citi is known for impeccable customer service and they are always trying to please the customer. The 0% APR for 18 months is almost unheard of in the credit card industry and it shows that Citi cares about their customers. I've had a PNC Bank Business Card for about 6 years and out of everything, it's the best business card I have. They offer the typical "points program" to receive cash back/discounts on purchases, with percentages based on the type of store and if any specials are going on. However, the kicker here is they offered me the lowest interest rate of any business card I have. They have also been very easy to deal with when situations arose that necessitated calling customer service. Amazingly friendly and they went above and beyond to help me - which was greatly appreciated. I have no complaints about the PNC Bank Business Card more

I have a checking and savings account with chase for more than 4 years now. I went into the bank and one of the ladies said that I was instantly approved for the Chase Ink Plus Business credit card. I thought I might as well sign up since I get an extra 625 dollars for using the credit card. I was amazed at how fast these reward points kept stacking up. The 5x points per dollar for office supply purchases on the first $50,000 equaled to a ton of money back on purchase I normal don't get too much cash back on. Also the double points on gas and hotel more

The best business credit card I have used has been the Chase Business Ink. The credit limit for this card is really high (15000+) so you’ll have enough funds for your business needs. You also get reward points for each purchase which you can use to redeem for various gift cards or even cash. You get more points for gas so make sure to use this when filling up. The customer service is also top notch. They called me one time just to make sure I had everything I need and even asked about my business so they could find ways to optimize the use of my card.

The Citi Diamond Preferred Card is a very impressive little card that any company should be excited to put to use. The introductory APR is absolutely a blessing, and gives plenty of time to try out the card before tying up any money in interest. The Cash Rewards for Business MasterCard Credit Card is wonderful. First of all, I must say the customer service is excellent. I had a fraudulent charge on my card and I was able to get this issue fixed immediately. I can not stress how excellent the customer service was. They were extremely helpful in getting the charge removed. The card is a great way to earn plenty of cash back. They offer 2% on purchases at restaurants and 3% on certain gas stations. Hands down the best card I have ever used with my small business is the American Express Open card. This card is specifically tailored to small business and American Express understands the needs of small business. The card helps you with 5% off on office supplies and 100% buyers protection on every purchase. When myself and a friend decided to launch our start up, we needed a credit card that wouldn't burn our pocket yet suffice all business needs and the Citi Diamond Preferred Card was our natural choice. There is a 0% interest in purchases for 18 months and that ensured that we could purchase everything needed to set up the office and generate revenue for repaying. Though the balance transfer rates are quite high, i guess its normal for business cards. We use the Capital One Spark Cash for Business card because it has given us the most cash back over any other card we use. In our business we are constantly using our card for product and it works great. The card allows us to earn cash back for all of our purchases. The customer service is also amazing! It's great to be able to call Capital One and actually talk to someone in the United States. I don't know how many times on other cards we'd have to talk to someone from another country. I have been using the American Express Small Business (Open) card for years and I have to say it has been the best card I have used for my business (and I use several business cards) because the Small business card from American Express has a 100% protection policy on purchases (I have been ripped off a couple times online and they covered me all the way!) and a nice 5% rebate on cell phone service and office supplies as well as a decent 3% rebate on gas for the cars. My mother in law is a small business owner, one of the biggest problems that she had when she was getting started was finding the right business credit card.
