Only good for the first half-year. All of the Wells Fargo Student Credit Card’s best features are crammed into the first six months your account is open. You will receive 3% cash back on gas, groceries and drugstore purchases — but only for the first six months. After that, you’ll earn just 1% back on all purchases, which is about average for a cash-back credit card. Furthermore, you’ll get 0% intro rates on new purchases and balance transfers, but again, only for six months. Afterwards, even with the lowest regular APR assigned, it would be better not to carry a balance from month to month, which is not advised when trying to build your credit rating. For context, the average student credit card has a 19.73% APR.
No annual fee is a necessity. It’s important for students to get a card with no annual fee because low-cost credit improvement should be their top priority. In that sense, the Wells Fargo College Credit Card fits the bill. However, most student cards don’t charge annual fees, so this won’t be the deciding factor.
Rewards-redemption rigidity. The Wells Fargo College Card only lets you redeem your cash back in increments of $25. That means you’ll have to carefully plan redemption in order to cash in your total earnings.
Watch out for foreign fees. If you want a card to use while studying or backpacking abroad, make sure to get one with no foreign-transaction fees. This will save you about 1.56% on every purchase relative to the average credit card and 3% compared to the Wells Fargo Cash Back College Card. Furthermore, a no-foreign-transaction-fee credit card will help you save up to 9% on currency conversion.
Not one of 2024’s best student cards. College usually takes a lot longer than six months to complete, which is why the Wells Fargo Student Card’s limited-time features don’t quite do the trick. So we recommend checking out WalletHub’s picks for the year’s best student credit cards before making up your mind.

This was one of only a few cards I qualified for when I first started college, and among those few, it had the best terms, the best rate and by far the best rewards. This became my go-to card for my ancillary college expenses, and the cash back rewards were a huge boon. Application process was really easy. I never had any problems with the card, never had to test their fraud protection or anything like that. It really was a great card for my student years and with the controlled limits, it's great for teaching good credit card use practices. I was a very happy customer.

I like this card and have had it ever since I was a freshman in college. I have payed my bill on time and always tried to pay a good amount back, and because of this my credit limit has been raised. I feel like this is a good starter card for someone who has never had a credit card because it teaches you to be responsible. The cash rewards are easy to use and there are great things you can buy with them. Even more products have been added recently! I definitely recommend this card.

Love this credit card. Wells fargo has always been good to me, and the cashback rewards are pretty good. They are a little stingy. I would you could get a little more money back for buying certain things, but that hasn't happened for this card yet. Customer service is great, they're always more than happy to answer my questions. The interest rate isn't terrible, and the monthly payments are manageable. You also get to use wells fargo's online banking which is probably the best online banking service that I know of. It's easy and really dependable. And paying bills on their online service is also very easy. Just input the company, and you're pretty much good to go. Set it on auto pay, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Worst credit card ever. Never call customer service for anything, they will freeze your account. Twice now I've called trying to get them to send my new card to my address, but they sent it to a different address! They charged me for rush shipping both times, even though they explicitly said they wouldn't the second time after having messed up the first one. I have no problem with the credit card itself the customer service is just terrible. I went through a name change a few years back and they froze all my accounts until I had to physically go into a Wells Fargo branch and get them to unfreeze it. I love my Wells Fargo checking and savings account, just NEVER get the credit card. It is awful.

I have had my college card for a long time now, and even though I had decided to not go back to college I was able to keep my card. The monthly payment on it is almost nothing, which is really helpful, and the card is very easy to keep track of. I have had no problems with my card so far, it has been a wonderful card. Even when I had almost maxed out my 1500 limit on my card, the monthly payment barely increased, which I thought was awesome and the overdraft protection is very useful for keeping you in the black.

This card is great for being a college student. At first I was kind of nervous to use it since it was my first card, but the bank assured me that I should be fine. Right off the bat they gave me $700 credit that was available immediately and the card was shipped out right then and there. For the first few months I had no interest rate which was great and I had tons of cash back rewards.

This is a good card for college students. There are several benefits with this card that help out college students. The overdraft protection is helpful and has saved me from being charged several times. The benefits it provides are also nice; like the emergency card replacement. Just in case you accidentally misplace your card you can have a new one sent to you at school.

As a student this card is perfect for me because it goes along with my free checking account. It's great to know that I always have it to fall back on and the cash rewards program is great -- basically free money!
