Explanation: A financial institution that issues credit cards. Sometimes referred to as an "issuer bank" or just "issuer".

Background: Some of the largest credit card companies in the U.S. are: Bank of America, Chase, Capital One, Citibank. Credit cards are not issued by Visa and MasterCard; rather, banks issue credit cards under those credit card networks.
